Ah ok that makes sense. Well either way, if you choose a video card with 1X DVI, 1X HDMI, 1X DP, you can do HDMI>DVI for one monitor

Have you checked your local Craigslist for used video cards? 'Good' new cards are out of your price range, so you'll have to either check the classifieds, or try eBay.

Yeah, it's a risk, but a pretty small one. You just need to be smart about what you're buying and who you're buying from.

In your case, I'd try to find a used 4870/4890 1GB from XFX. That way, the seller can transfer their warranty to you.

However, you do have some other options:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127495R

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127445R

The second one has 1GB of memory, and is moderately overclocked.

Here's a 5770: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814141116R

Just remember that these don't have a normal warranty because they're Open Box.

All of them, although the open box 5770 has since been sold.

This one is cheap: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127495R

...but only has 512MB of memory so that can be a pain if you want to use AA and AF at higher resolutions.

Still, it'd be an improvement over a 9600GT.

However, here's a good deal:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131365&cm_re=4850-_ -14-131-365-_-Product

80 dollars after rebate, and it's an ATI. This card is new, and has full warranty. Plus, you can Crossfire it with another 4850 if you want. Unless you can find a 4850 or 4870 on Craigslist for cheaper, I don't think you can do any better.

Actually ATI 5000 cards support 3 monitors per card (Third monitor MUST be run via displayport), some cards even support 6 monitors.

My suggestion for the ATI route is wait 6 weeks as some 6000 mid range cards are due out in October. Should be some price drops on the 4000 and 5000 series as well as new products.

Here's a good deal if you want an ATI card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150497&cm_sp=DailyD eal-_-14-150-497-_-Product

A 5830 for 159.99 after rebate is really good value!

It's not the fastest card, but it'll probably serve your needs for now. And it should probably drop considerably more in the next few months so you can run two if your power supply can handle them.

If you don't manage to get it, then at least check newegg's Daily Deals because they often have really good discounts. Also, use http://www.google.com/products to help search for the best prices on cards.

Good price on that card, already sold out. Should be a lot more prices like that in the near future.

ATI has released the 68xx series, and while they're great, nVidia has also cut the prices on its GTX 460 and 470.

I have my GTX 470 running close to a 480. While the 470 will MSRP at $260, chances are you'll find nicely rebated versions come Black Friday.

Absolutely. In fact, they're doing a couple weeks of sales leading up the big day.

Zotac is doing a beg rebate/sales gig on their nVidia cards. You can get a GTX 460 from them for 129.99 after a rebate!

You CAN get that 460 right now.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500173&cm_re=zotac_ 460-_-14-500-173-_-Product

It's a weekend special though, so you might have to act quick. However, it has 'only' 768MB which means that if you game over 1680x1050, you might want to get a card with 1GB.

Asus also has a GTX 460 on sale too for the same price after rebate.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390

If you do decide to wait, then good luck! Chances are, you should be able to find a GTX 460 or even 470 for a great price on Black Friday, or an ATI 5850. Smile

Well, you don't want to spend too much. What you need to do is figure out what resolution you want to play at, what sort of settings you aim to use and decide accordingly.

Probably at midnight, depending on the retailer.

Often, they will send out emails previewing their sales, and the times. So if you don't already, sign up to get those emails from places like newegg.com and tigerdirect.com . They often provide a link to sign up, or you just register to be a customer.

I do think you want to have a couple graphics cards picked out that you know you'll be happy with. That means if you see a really good deal, you'll buy something that you want, instead being upset later. Also, that means you won't have to research the card as much when you see the sale, meaning you'll likely get it, before others grab up the stock.

Radeon 69xx series is supposed to launch soon as well, so that'll probably lower prices of current cards if you can hold out till then.
