I just attempted again, this time i got an error within the renegade installer saying:

>Renegade Setup Error
>
>A system error has been detected.
>Please ensure the Renegade Game CD-ROM is in the drive.
>
>[Retry] [Quit]

I took out the disk and put it back in, and then setup crashed to windows again.

Sounds like your disk might be scratched.... try installing it from the iso image that's kicking around somewhere (use the forum search tool to find it or check the sticky topics, its probably in one of them) using your existing serial key.

Don't know what to suggest then... for me under Windows 7 I just put the disk in and clicked Install and waited for it to complete the installation. No special steps required.

Actually, those isos are no good, there's something wrong with them afaik.

Depends, I think that SpeedyJ has a couple of good ones somewhere. At least, last time those worked.

I tried a few things and still not luck, reinstalled Windows 7, then tried various GPU drivers. still nothing. Tho i installed XP pro onto a partition and that worked fine. I then tried running through Windows 7 off of the XP install, the game started up and single player worked, but when i I tried to get online, i got another error message saying that; Westwood online is not compatible with the operating system.

I thought it might have been a hardware problem, but it worked on XP on the same set up. So I'm kinda lost on what it could be if it works on other peoples vista and win7.

But maybe i could be a hardware problem with in Windows 7... this is my set up tho for if any one knows any driver problems and such i did try and find all up to date win7 drivers.

Windows 7 Pro 32bit
AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4ghz
Corsair Dominator 4gb 1600mhz RAM
MSI 790fx-gd70
nVidia GeForce 9800gt 1gb
2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.13 500gb (in Mirrored RAID)

Oh and the disk I'm using are republished by Sold Out. not sure if that makes any difference.
Also the ISO I tried:
http://renegade.dmehosting.com/CD%27s/ from the forum thread http://www.renegadeforums.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=386933&rid=20189& srch=.iso#msg_386933

Anyway hope this could be some use for helping with my problem.

Thanks guys.

well i got a little more info on the crashing... i check the event logs and got this:

>Faulting application name: Setup.exe_Renegade Setup, version: >1.6.0.0, time stamp: 0x3c5222f6
>Faulting module name: D3D8.DLL_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time >stamp: 0x4a5bd9a7
>Exception code: 0xc0000005

Iv been told that its something to do with compatibility with DirectX 8

Actually, that DLL allows for usage of DX9. I thought it only came with scripts 3.x

Delete scripts 3.4.4, if you have this issue with Directx 9.0c...or just delete d3d8.dll, and see if your renegade will still run w/o it.
