They're targeting netbooks. I don't know how screwed Microsoft is.

At first it says. Microsoft isn't screwed by any means but a heavy weight like google will cerently force microsoft to step it up. Microsoft aboslutly needs some good solid ass kickin compitition in the industry.

MS has nothing to worry about. Crome sucked and most people dont use it, even people that used to. I dont know where this 30 million shit came from lol.

yet you have nothing to back your claims.

The OS that google is making is meant for netbooks and is going to be meant almost exclusively for cloud computing, it's basically going to be chrome when you open up your netbook, so unless you want to do nothing other than to check facebook you'll have to stick with microsoft.

This is definately NOT a sqipe at MS' share of any market other than the netbook market. Google is simply testing the water, and learning how to develop OS's. My guess would be that Google will try a more mainstream product after this, which is probably just a precursor or experiment.

I reckon 2012-14, when Windows7 is nearing the end of its life cycle.

Lol. I bet you use FailFox, don't you? Enjoy using half a gig of Ram to browse the internet.

Heck no, I use IE lol... Works fine work me.

@BlueThen, sure I do, I check the stats on the websites I monitor. It records things like location, OS, browser, time, came from. It creates pie charts, and bar graphs. IE comes out about 75% ever time.

E: Source, sure enough came out to 73%

Obviously it'll come out to 75%, IE comes with every copy of windows, you were also probably checking the stats for livejournal or something. If you go to sites where the majority of people don't think you can download the internet you get much different stats.

i think the win for google is the fact that theu release it as Open Source. This gives other people a lot of chances to finaly integrate the programs and give game developers a chance to actually create a game which will not fail due to all restrictions made by Microsoft. thats my opinion..

Geez!? Those stats are the complete opposite.... I guess all the web designers use ff. W3 might not be a good site to track because it only gets one type of audience (web designers).

& they didnt come from livejournal, I said before, those stats are from one of my more larger sites.

Those statistics are skewed though because they don't sample a large portion of the population, and instead focus on a narrow section of people, who do know more about computers than the average person. It'd be like surveying how many people own a Toyota Camry (IE) on a Porsche 911 Website. I wouldn't be surprised if PsuFan's statistics would be skewed, as well.

IE may have it's problems in comparison to the competition, but market share is still market share. However, the most reliable info would likely come from a party like Nielson who does media ratings, so I'd bet they'd have the most complete info.

I was very excited to hear that they were developing an OS. This is what I've been saying for so long. Google needs to make their own OS. Then I found out it's Google Chrome running on linux...

Bor-Fucking-Ing

I wish they would have developed their own OS from scratch instead of using an already existing kernel.

It makes me want to start a ridiculous and futile persuit to write my own OS from scratch... With HARD context switching deadlines! I'm talking near Real Time! No more of this one program hogging the CPU and the whole system coming to a halt. If the process won't yield you preempt it and if it fails to yield more than once you suspend it. You give it another chance after so many task switches.

It really bothers me when one program just uses 100% of the CPU and the system hangs and it takes 5 minutes to open task manager and it's running so slowly you can't scroll to end the process that is gumming it all up. That shouldn't happen on a preempting OS...
