What would you guys think if I released a Win32 Ladder Kit for Renegade?

where servers could host there own ladders and/or group together with other servers and share the ladder?

Just toss out your thoughts, not like it is a huge thing to do, since i have it all sitting on my computer right now anyways, and since the WOL ladder basically took a shit on us, it would be a nice way to get some competitive play back in the game, and maybe even deal with it a bit better as far as what people are playing for (as in there would be a way to choose the ladder point calculations).

It's a great idea, but I feel you have way to much going on. I wouldn't want to have us put another burden on you. You do so much as it is, PC must miss you at times.

actually, like i said, all i have to do is really make it portable, and make an installer for it, as well as quickly add mySQL support for it as i am sure not everyone has a copy of MS SQL laying around...

If it is that simple and quick, go for it.

If you release this, I'll try to get about 20 servers be in one ladder. The Pits, Black-Cell, BeanyServ and any others that would want to join?

We could probably throw FoDSvr01 in to the mis for AOW, and then get sniper servers on another ladder. Crimson79, FoDSvr02, Snipe Open and others

the server currently would require the following to work right...

a. Win32 based
b. MS SQL MSDE 2000 or Standard MS SQL 2000
c. .Net framework (easy one)
d. 4 ports open for private use
e. a bit of sql knowledge (if you gonna have a server, j00 gotta know how to run it)
f. at least a P3, 256m computer
g. an edit to the hosts file (if you don't know what it is, i can't tell you)

simply put, this redirects the servserv to your own computer, then will tell the fds to send all ladder queries to your computer, then they will be caught by the console application that runs (Ren Lad Kit software) and then uploaded to the DB (shared if desired). Now, the tricky part comes when displaying the data, you will have to build your own stuff for that, as i don't have time to develop a ladder site for you. but with some simple db knowledge, you can create a quick site for it in a matter of no time, if not, there are plenty of people that could help you out with it.

I would have to say, since this is the official forums, maybe Crimson could add 2 pages from a link for the ladder. 1 for AOW and 1 for Sniper. Just a thought.

I have a Dedicated Server (Windows 2k Server, 2.4Ghz, 512 RAM) with 700GB of bandwith.

Will this work with BR .Net? I know the answer is most likely going to be yes, but people need to see the answer.

I just want to make sure it will not conflict with it somehow.

Hmm... this sort of automatic reporting is pretty cool... so long as it still works with my RenStat, which it looks like it will.

I guess djlaptop won't be needing to code a community ladder after all, though he's already got an engine for making your own complex ladder formulas for RenStat2 which I am eagerly awaiting. Smile
