To play through Hamachi you need Hamachi version 1.0.1.5 (it's free, in fact all hamachi versions are free but this version is stable). After installing Hamachi you'll need to install the NWLink/IPX/SPX/NetBIOS. If it is already installed you must select it, click properties and then set the "Internal Network Number" to 00000000 ; "Frame type" to Ethernet 802.2 and the "Network number" to 00000001. Of course you must have the latest patch for Renegade. And if you will do that try to connect to Renegade0001 password 1234.

You signed up to post that?

Actually I have used this before when I was trying to play Tiberian Sun with a friend. It works but it's complicated if you don't know what you're doing.

It'd be nice to play a LAN game with someone far away (to avoid hassle of setting up a private server).

I've played Rengade through Hamachi before. I don't recall ever needing to "install the NWLink/IPX/SPX/NetBIOS". We just installed Hamachi and ran with it without a hitch.

Ditto.

Hamachi is a VPN (virtual private network) program. In layman's terms, basically used to create a LAN network over the internet.

If installed properly (which isn't hard to do at all since the installer is quite simple), once you run hamachi and create your own network, all other people have to do is join your network (by entering network name and password) and then you're fully connected to the hosting party's network. It's like you are on the same LAN network. Now you can play your favorite game (works for most other games, aside from just Renegade) via the LAN option or equivalent selection.

You shouldn't need to do all that extra stuff.

For reference, anyone can create their own Hamachi network. The Hamachi network offers 2 downloads: one for small individuals, and one corporate edition. The only big difference is that the individual version is free and can only host a 16 person network, while the corporate edition costs money and can host up to 256 per network. Whichever version you download is both the client and the server. You can either create your own network right there, or connect to someone elses.

There ARE other options you have to configure for advanced features such as filesharing over the network, but for general LAN based gaming, it's basically install and go.

If you don't want EA to get any credit, destroy their Refinery. Duh.
