Depends on the situation. I know in Alberta our government was stupid enough to tear down about half a dozen (or more) hospitals just before we got our economic boom. Now if there is not enough space (which is a reality at the moment), people are flown to the states.
Other times it's to see a specific specialist. The more rare the case, the less people who are qualified to deal with it, after all.
Government-run health care isn't perfect (it's run by the government after all...) but at least it's nice knowing I can get what I need without having to worry about whether or not I can pay for it or insurance will cover it.
Edit: Interesting personal case study to share. My brother's wife, who is from Georgia, was up here visiting while they were dating and had to go to the clinic for some reason. She was completely dumbfounded that we could just walk in (answer some questions because she was not from Canada - not too sure on the details on this part) and get treated. No hassles. She absolutely loved it.

In the medical world, there are standards, Private hospitals aren't the only facility's with clean tools like syringes and Scalpel knifes, public Hospitals have 'em too. 
Everything is the same, only difference between a private and public Hospital is that Private Hospitals give you your own room, and have one doctor per person, rather one doctor per 20 people.
Apart from that operations are the same, same tools, same machinery, if one Facility has a brand new tool, every hospital has them.
Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

Isn't one doctor per patient better quality? I mean I would rather have a doctor who has time to process my ailment than one who has 20 other people who need his attention. For example there is an university health center on campus here that I went to in March about some back pain I was experiencing, the one doctor who was there was obviously stressed out from all the people that had come through (there were many), he basically told me to stretch it out while not even giving a second look at my problem...cost me 9 dollars. Cheap I know but horrible service, now it is July and my back is still the same as it was, just recently I went to a chiropractor about the problem, about 5 minutes of paperwork instead of the half hour wait at the health center, instead of pushing me on through the chiropractor actually helped me out and I came out of there feeling better. A lot more expensive but I got way better service and personal attention concerning my problem. I would diffidently consider them different in terms of "quality".

In my opinion, If one doctor per 20 people can keep it up and help everyone, it shows that there more good at what they do, active in their line of work opposed to one doctor per patient, makes them seem like they can't handle a little competition.
You had a bad experience, one stressed doctor vs plenty of non stressed doctors.
as for your back, exercise more, you lazy runt.
alternatively, no heavy lifting, gee, you went and saw a doctor over a little back problem? LOL, sorry, but you just got conned man.

Oh, I don't doubt that she enjoyed it. I would enjoy not having the hassle, BUT I don't spend a lot of time in a hospital, but I do spend my money.
Then I'd argue strictly on the principle that I'd rather not have my government force me or anybody else to spend money that they don't directly benefit from.

Be it the government or an insurance company, you are giving away money that you will never directly benefit from... until you need to use it.

The difference between insurance companies and government is... the companies aren't government. Some may see this as a trivial difference, but I like my government small. Companies lose power when people don't want their services, anymore. Government keeps its power.

Are comments like this really necessary? I mean you try to make an intelligent point but bringing personal quips such as this to the argument only serve to prove your asininity in debate. Why I went to the doctor has no bearing on the argument so it is not a topic of the debate, for all intents and purposes it is hypothetical.

If you're good going to a doctor that spends the minimal amount of time looking at your problem because he has 20 other patients to look at then go for it but I will go to the doctor who will spend more time on my problem and treatment. If he is good at his work he will be rewarded with more business from other customers.
Competition? From what? Is this the quality vs. quantity debate again? It better not be since you don't think there is such a thing as "quality" in health care.

I just gave you a hint, a back problem is probably the most simplest pain to cure.
why? because your body is equipped to heal it, pain killers and rest, with a little exercise can heal it in one week.
I really don't care how my argument looks, even if i add shit like that, big fucking woop! There are other things in life to worry about other than MY intelligence and how an argument looks on the Internet, besides, I couldn't give two fucks what people think of me.

first of all, a doctor can be appointed to people with a common cold to a possible patient with MS (Multiple Sclerosis), The doctor will say to the patient with a common cold, wait three fucking days, it will go away, and then go to the patient with Multiple Sclerosis and tell him what's going to happen, give his sympathy and prescribe painkillers to stop the pain you're going to get with that illness.
Just because a doctor doesn't want to waste 30 minutes with you because you have the flu or a pain in your leg doesn't mean he might not give a fuck for you, but that the other people he has to treat might need more attention because it's more serious.
as for qualiteh, there's standards, I mean this is American we're talking about, so things might be different, Public hospitals might be dirty places infested with all sorts of diseases opposed to private hospitals that are completely clean but hey, that's me generalizing America as stupid unfair fucks like the rest of the world is doing.

My back problem was just a bit of the story that I decided to tell you, in the end it doesn't matter what I went to the doctor for, it was the service that I got, which was bad even before I even saw the doctor himself.

Why not just have the government do it all for us? Why stop at health care? They need to pay for my car insurance, my utilities, my house payment, rent, etc...
why not have the government be the end all to everything. do away with free market economy just let them fix the same price for everyone.
