So I got this sweet limited edition Game Boy from Japan, but since the voltage in Japan is 110 and 220 over here, I need an adapter.

I have a US > UK adapter and a UK > EU adapter, but the Game Boy hardly charges if I use both in combination.

Now if I get a US > EU adapter, will I have to get a special one so that not the entire 220V get pushed into a Game Boy which is meant to only handle 110V or is the voltage changed somehow automatically? Would I damage the Japanese Game Boy if I used a European recharger on it? Help this electricity dummy out - or else!

Thanks Thumbs Up

lol

Check the charge unit for "input voltage", most handle both 110 and 220 just fine.

Well, the whole thing's in Japanese. None the less, I scanned the whole manual for numbers and I only saw 110V twice. I checked the back of the Game Boy, there's only one mention of input (adapter input = 5,2 V) and the charger/adapter gives an input value of 120V, nothing else.

When I visited England awhile ago, I could charge my North American DS with a UK charger just fine.

Japan runs on slightly less voltage than the US. The UK where you live as you said is 220V. You can buy an adapter plug but these do not convert the voltage. If you plug the gameboy charger designed for 100V into 220V it will likely asplode.

Here's how we can give you more help, Tell us what it says on the charger for the gameboy. You said it is in all Japanese but numbers do not translate lol.

Look for markings like these: 110-115V and 50-60hz. Look for a voltage range indication and a frequency range indication. Those are what are important.

Yep, you need to get an xbxo360. I'm currently playing BF:Bad Company Demo (the full version is not released yet.) That game rox!

Thanks for the explosion warning...I just noticed that it doesn't charge at all through my 2-adapter construction. The Game Boy works for 5 seconds until it turns off...if I had fed it with 220V and made it "explode", it wouldn't start up at all, right?

Well, the Game Boy charger's back looks like this:

INPUT: AC100V 50/60Hz 7VA
OUTPUT: DC5.2V 320mA

INPUT: AC120V 60Hz 4W
OUTPUT: DC5.2V 320 mA

The Game Boy's back looks like this:

Rating: 5.2V .-.-.-.1.6W
Battery: Li-ion(OXY-003)3.8V
Adapter Input: 5.2V .-.-.-.-.320mA

Those numbers are repeated in the manual...hope that helps.

Ok so any US Voltage Converter will work as that charger is designed for operation in the US or Japan.

This is the kind of thing you would need. I'm not saying to buy that exact one but a Travel Voltage Converter for running US electronics in Europe is what you are looking for.
