I don't know of any others besides FRAPS. I would suggest Camtasia Studio, but that isn't free and I haven't ever tried to record a fullscreen game with it. I recorded Guild Wars in windowed mode once, and it worked pretty well.

The best way would be to try them yourself and find one that you like. By the time you get a decent answer from someone you could have already tried a few and maybe even found one that you like. Wink

FRAPs poor quality.. Dude what are you talking about? The quality you get ingame is the quality you get from FRAPS unless you choose half-mode. Which then the quality is the same until you full screen it.

The files are only big because they're RAW data. You need to convert the raw data into a usable codec like DivX which will make the file go from like 1.5GB to 100MB give or take depending on the codec and quality you choose with that codec.

Do some googling on converting video files. You could always do it the lazy way and use Window Movie Maker and get average quality without putting in any effort.

Any Video Converter does an excellent job for converting videos in my opinion.

What I do is use this program called WinAVI and convert the FRAPs recording into some other file. WMV usually gets pretty small.

And if you are only looking for another way of recording just because the file sizes are too big, then you are out of luck because all recording programs record like that. (Unless they have some sort of video converter built in... but I don't know what's out there.)

All you need is the space to record, then just convert it and delete the original. Saving you gigs of space.

This is true you can get recording programs like this that will record and encode on the go however... Trying to play a game, record and then encode at the same time isn't going to give a good FPS ingame unless you have atleast a Duo/X2 cpu and you can set one CPU to game and the other to record/encode. Even then I still wouldn't recommend it.

Then you have it set up wrong.

No video recording software will make the video it records small. You have to compress them yourself.

FRAPS is a VERY GOOD TOOL for recording ingame videos, just set it up right and you'll have great quality, if your computer can take it.
