Im fed up of clicking on the little down arrow and finding millions of URL's that I have visited before there.
It is really annoying. Just one of those things I wanna change and make it permanent, like so no one else can change it and it don't record the URL's again.

Sure, it can be usefull if you want to go to a page and you can't be arsed to type the URL. But, I do (As I like typing).

I know that Internet explorer saves all the URL's in some system folder somewhere, so I am hoping if one of you guys can tell me how I can restrict, change/edit this file or the settings and put a password on it or something. So no idiot can change the settings.

My dad does it all the time and it p**ses me off. Way to easy to go to Options Internet Settings then change all the stuff I setup so it records everything. Wasting space Angry

Thanks,

bat66wat6

  1. Open IE
  2. On the Tools Menu click Internet Options
  3. On the General Tab, under Browsing History, click Settings
  4. At the bottom of the window under History, set the number of days to 0

I'd rather stick with Internet Explorer...Mainly because it's annoying having to setup and install another web browser.

Besides, my dad as I said aint to user friendly with comps. Although he still uses em he is a bit lacking in we browsing knowledge. He'd be pissed if I got a new browser without permission. And if I ask him before hand he'd just say no Blush

It says on the Microsoft help site that it can be done with IE anyways.

Please can someone tell me how to block the files & settings. Or set it so he can't change em?

My school comps have millions of restrictions on em. I mean you cant even create a .txt document on Desktop it's so strict.

But amongst all this. The settings for IE in Tool>Internet Options have been removed. Obviously so I can't change the settings.
How can I implement this restriction to my Dads or anyones account?
I mean, me and him are Admins. But if I could remove the Internet Options tab from his IE, he wouldn't know how to undo it Angry Big Grin

How can I do this?

He is so annoying when he sets it up to record all the stuff iv been seeing then I change it and he puts it back Angry

Oh and, when I change all the settings so there is 1MB save space allowed for Temp IE files, Days to record files in History=0 and Autocomplete all unchecked. It still records what iv been iv been going on when I click History icon @ top of browser...? Dont Get It
Couldn't I just change the Temp internet folder or it's name so it don't record my viewed pages, but in a folder somewhere he can't access?

Thanks,

bat66wat6

You could always try obeying him and respecting the protection he's clearly trying to give you.

If I were him I'd lock you down and restrict you from all internet access until you smarten up. When you pay for your own internet connection you can lock yourself in the basement and wrap yourself in a furry costume all you want.

Protection...
That's a joke.
He ainy trying to protect me at all. He's more like spying on me!
Besides. I want to mainly lock out my Dad from IE stuff like my History and Web Cookies of where I been that this thing continuously stores, so that he don't think im some sort of sick pervert or something.
I mean more than 85% of sites I end up on in my query for things not even related to porno like Game files and Map utilities for games like AVP2(Lookin for advice and help on that)take me to sites that have loads and loads of porno pictures down the sides of women and captions something like "Find a girl in your area to f**k!". It's disguisting!

Anyways, if you wanna chase me up on this argument Kirby or anyone else. Please PM me about it. I don't want this Topic going Off-Topic.

---------------------
On-Topic
Please, im mainly out to take away the Internet Options tab that you can get to in IE from his area.
And if possible. Stop him going into the folders where IE stores all this crap like the cookies it is always collecting. And "Temporary Internet Files".

Thanks,

bat66wat6

Hey Bat,

I can tell you but then everytime your dad clicks on it, it will show him a restricted access message and the first person who he will suspect is you.

Also, doing this will need you to edit the Registry and I don't want to indirectly ruin your computer by giving you advanced instructions you may fail to follow carefully.

And before you do all that, you have to create a System Restore point just in case. All these are advanced (for you). And by doing all this, I am getting in the way of your dad who is rightfully trying to keep you safe from viewing pictures of naked bitches who have no life and pornstars who will corrupt the young mindzssss.

I am not trying to impose any morals on you as I believe in human nature but when your dad is specifically looking after what you are doing on the internet, I feel it is wrong for me to barge in and impede that.

So the risks and disadvantages outweigh the benefits.

Just do this...this is new:

Go to Internet Options --> Click on the Advanced tab all the way on the top right --> Scroll down in the small window till you reach "Security" --> Click and check on the "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" option.

Now everytime you close the browser, it deletes the items in the TIF folder. You still have to delete Cookies and History though! And when you delete History, make sure to check on the "Delete Offline content" option.

And you have to close the browser. If you do all these things and don't close the browser, there is a chance it will still show you the History.

Have a nice day!

I am not dumb. Despite what you think.
I get the hint. I remember the smug remarks you posted during my "Problem" regarding I.P bans & my bros hacks.
No it aint my bro. He don't know my Dads password on this comp or mine(13 digits, numbers and letters! Sneaky Angry )

And Starbuzz. I am familiar with the Registry Editor. I have used it before for other issues. Im sure that any directions you give me wouldn't result in the comp screwing.
Believe it or not I do have some common sense on what I should and shouldn't edit in the regedit.
Just a bit complex in there. I mean every XP registry file and folder on the whole comp is bound to be a bit comfusing Huh

At least if I can't stop my dad trying to spy on me or whatever he's up to.
Maybe this knowledge of how to restrict a user could come in handy one day. Most probably if I ever get my own P.C.

So if you could, please post the Directions or PM me them.

Thanks,

bat66wat6

See, here's the thing. Your parents' computer is *gasp* not your property. It is the property of (can you guess what I'm going to say?) your parents. If your dad wants to monitor you, he has every right to. Nobody gives a fuck if you don't like it or not. Quite honestly, someone should tell your dad about your intentions.

As for my "are you sure it's not your brother" question is remarking on how you generally blame things on your brother(s). Of course, I shouldn't have expected you to actually get that. Then again, you insist you're not dumb, so maybe you should have picked up on my insinuation.

I'll say this again, Get the fuck off of my Internet.

Oh. No Mr Maturity!

Started an argument on a reasonably neutral Topic. Cheesoda, do you just go in and out of peoples Topics posting things to provoke other people? Sounds kinda like my bro really. He's just a provokitive little b***ard who always demands attention.
It's a big shame I can't just ban people like you from posting anything on my Topics. That'd be good Big Ups

But still. Ignoring your stupid posts. I think this is on-Topic enough to carry on.

Please, Starbuzz. Get back to me on those instructions if you can before Cheesoda really gets on my nerves.

P.S:
Can't ever take an insult without doing something back to the person who insults me, especially online Listen

Cheesoda. Saying things like. "Get the fuck of my internet" is not a very clever thing. Considering you see yourself as intelligent. The www or n.e.t is global. Every computer on earth connected together is hardly yours! Satisfied Sarcasm

God, what a dumbass thing to say! Thought you were smarter than that... Sarcasm

I'm just posting snide remarks in a topic that is meant to undermine authority (let alone one's parents). With your past track record, I see no reason why people should even consider answering your questions seriously.

The fact that you're blatantly trying to undermine your parents' authority shows the fact that you're just another punk ass, bitch kid who can't appreciate things. It's not your home, and you're not entitled to your privacy especially on a computer that's not yours.

Do you not realize that "get off (of) my Internet" is a pretty common saying online? Let alone the fact that the web is NOT the Internet. The "WWW" is just a part of the Internet. Of course, if you weren't a fucking moron, you probably would have realized this.
