He wasn't just the first man to climb Everest he was also a great humanitarian, a humble man and a great New Zealander.

I'm a NZ citizen (have been for 8 years now) and I can say the whole nation mourns his passing. If you want an example of the kind of people New Zealanders want to be, you need look no further than Sir Ed.

Is that even possible? I mean, apart from cave men?

Seriously though, this guy is probably THE most famous New Zealander of all time.

See, this is why it's actually a fairly good idea for people to pay attention to the news. I realize most of the people on here are 12 years-old (at least, that's how they act), but being versed in current events is probably a good idea.

RIP

I remember learning about him in school; I even wanted to climb Mt. Everest myself after reading about his achievement. Now I am older, greedy and could care less about a mountain.

I said most! It wasn't a complete generalization, allowing for margin of error for those actually older than 12 and act their age.

Good point.

I now concur.

Nor does everyone have time to be versed in current events. Particullarly us upper classmen in high school. And the extra time we do have is spent on more fun things or sleep to alleviate the mind.

As for the sig, no, I met her on the XpHaZe forums and servers. It's such a shame she's gone too.

It's his time not yours. Also, him sleeping away does not mean the world is going to starve to death.

I thought the name looked familar when I clicked on the link. But saying that about Mt. Everest helped jog my memory.

I couldn't care less about the news in the next town over, let alone New Zealand.

And even so... why should I? The only news I need to know is about anything that relates to me and where I live. If you watch the news for any other reason, it becomes entertainment.

I mean look at those Michael (spelling?)Jackson trials... those pissed me off so much. So what if your kid was 'molested' by Jackson,it has no effect on me at all, short of having that much less to watch on TV.

Anyway my point is: why should I care about news in New Zealand?

edit: On a somewhat related ignorant note, I always thought Everest had never been scaled... guess that goes to show you my standings in this matter...
