The minimalist look (Which isn't displayed here very well, due to abundance of icons). Also good as i can access everything without having to minimize a single window.
index.php?t=getfile&id=4838&private=0
You may still think "OMG he still has tonnes (or tons) of icons all over his desktop" but i had a lot more to start with. In fact every icon on that toolbar was on it.

Anyone else use this method?

  1. Unlock the taskbar
  2. Right click the taskbar and select Toolbars
  3. Create a new folder and use it
  4. On the taskbar, your selected folder will appear on the right next to the toolbar section. Drag it onto your desktop.
  5. Drag it to the side of the screen you want it to be attached to untill it attaches itself.
  6. Now you can add icons into it.

It's completely grey however and is unaffected by your XP skin.

Just make a new folder, give it a snazzy icon, and put all your ridiculously worthless shortcuts in there. Or...delete them all together. For instance, I have an applications folder for things i'm too lazy to: "click start->find program->click executable" for.

Same, few months ago, my desktop was full of icons, had no more room.

So I just dumped them all in a folder called Desktop on my Desktop. Big Grin

Actually i just dragged and dropped Smile
And then set it to auto-hide.
I'm surprised no one said OMG ch3at3r! Ch3at 3ng1n3! as i have it listed there.

Also I don't use the XP skins (they look ugly, especially IE7/why i now use FF).
I've noticed there's one option that was missed in the classic skin options in xp, the tree-view colour(which is used for other things in other programs, such as the search toolbar for firefox)

index.php?t=getfile&id=4843&private=0
(the green)

How could I change this to something other than the preset ones?
Registry?

I use something that looks better. Object Dock.

Both that bar on the top of the screen and the "draw" on the right side.

Yes, two screen shots. No hotkey to make it appear/disappear.
Image ready to compile it into a animated gif

If I had a need for something like that I would use Launchy, but despite having it I never really use it.
