Is it a virus? I downloaded it from game-maps.net and i can't get rid of it.
Stopped all unnecessary processes
Tried deleting it in windows. Cannot delete, make sure disk is not write protect bla bla
Tried to dos-delete it. Access denied
Tried to remove write protect from it in dos. Access denied

What is going on??? Have i downloaded ANOTHER trojan?
I only re-formatted a few days back due to Trojan.Vundo
Could my download have been hijacked?

Most trojans/viruses cannot do something unless you launch them...you say all you did was download it?

I tried deleting it because it did nothing.
I know that description, which is why i posted.

I also know some don't work until you restart, so im not turning this computer off just yet.

Yahoo search for Unlocker, it will let you delete the process and file that's giving you access denied. I love that program, gotton me out of sticky situations.

Ahh yeah, I love using that tool to manually delete Norton. Big Ups

And them pesky folders that won't let you delete them!

Check your task manager...if the process is still running, it won't let you delete it. It could be running as something like "rundll32"

I have checked the file in question from the game-maps.net ftp. It is not a virus/trojan/whatever.

i suggest you better start watching what you actually download.

I just use Processor Explorer from Microsoft's website. It lets you search for a handle (IE: C:\Stuff\Stuff.exe) and it will give you the process that is using the file. After you get that, it's simple enough to kill the process.

Obviously the file wasn't from game-maps. if it was a virus, my download must have been hijacked.
Restarted. File isn't there. Even in DOS prompt the dir command doesn't show it. If i had a floppy drive i would re-boot in DOS and try.
I Even tried deleting it in dos with a wildcard (*.exe) but it said it wasn't there.
Ran nod32 (anti virus) nothing comes up.

If you want to get rid of files boot up and safe mode and work from there. THe Hijack This log should give you the location of the files so it should be easy in theory.

The file has seemed to disappear. Hijack doesn't detect anything malicious.
