I've always loved everything about how Valve handled things but does anyone else have a sore ass rim over this Orange Box pre-order? I just had to buy HL2 and Ep1 over again because they will not be offering the black box. They reportedly said that they had issues with retailers.....

Even on steam though? It's steam...they are the retailers. They do allow you to send HL2 and Ep1 to anyone in the world as a free gift but bah to that. Everyone I would give it to already owns HL2 and Ep1 or is someone I hate so much that I would rather gut myself than give them anything other than a quick death. (Talking to you Viking)

The one thing that still is gold is the price. $44 bucks gets you the entire Hl2 series and all the upcoming games we have been waiting for.

@ the Viking comment: Its nothing about his post on this forum, it's the conversations we have on messengers.

Yeah, I was just about to pre-order, But I noticed it's the Orange Box only and I already have HL2 and Episode 1.

I think I'm going to have to wait for Episode 2, TF2 and Portals to be a separate package. Sad

Wikipedia

The package will be available at retail stores and through Steam (Valve's content delivery system) for direct download. A retail copy of Episode Two will reportedly not be available separately from the packages.[4] Originally a 'Black Box' retail package was to be released, containing only Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2, but this was canceled by Valve in May 2007 due to retailer issues.


Sadly it doesn't seem like they will be doing that and the price of buying any 2 of the 3 is over 44 bucks Huh

You know, you can buy those games separately. Here's the costs:

Half-Life 2: $29.95
Half-Life 2: Episode One: $19.95
Half-Life 2: Episode Two: $29.95
Portal: $19.95
Team Fortress 2: $29.95

So if you're just after Episode 2, Portal and TF2 It'll cost $79.85 separately. Really, you should just buy the orange box unless of course you are specifically after one of those games in the package. But if you're after games which come over $44.95 combined, you're better off just buying the orange box.

Holy shit.....thats like 498642389462384$ spent on games, and support valve. Huh They make their games too hard to pirate so fuck em, why not use a cracked steam client, get all the games on the list, install and play online which ever game you want? The funny thing is, you even get inhouse beta's the steam team was using, I saw bioshock on the list like 3 weeks ago Big Grin

There are quite a few pure servers out there if memory serves me well, many servers have a nice large whitelist though. Obviously blocking textures that could be altered for semi-transparency if not complete.

^ for blocking all downloads

I keep getting low grav servers and crap like that. So blocking files probably wont work for that situation.

Sounds are for the "BOOOOO00000MMMMM HEAD SHOT" and "FIRST KILL" stuff, There annoying as hell and you sometimes can't hear footsteps and you die.

Use the " cl_downloadfilter "none" " command, Save some space on your hard drive and hear footsteps. Razz
