I get the feeling this might turn into another Vista vs. EVERYTHING ELSE war.

My experiences with Vista aren't so good.

1st install > BSOD on boot-up for ages
2nd install > Drivers kept hanging
3rd install > nVidia ForceWare's full of bugs; window borders keep refocusing

People say it's because I have a crap computer, but I can run XP, Server 2003, Ubuntu, Arch, Fedora and MacOS X with no problems at all. (Well, MacOS needs some kexts to work to full potential)

Jonty you just said you should be able to run Vista because of a string of OS that require less computer power...

"I can run Crysis because I run Simcity 2000, Doom 2, C&C 95, even Tiberian Sun!"

Very well then.

AMD Sempron64 3400+
1.5GB DDR4000 SDRAM
160GB Hitachi DeskStar IDE HDD
16x DVD+-RW-DL
nVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB AGP

Will it work on that?

You need a faster hard drive, I'd imagine, it seems that no matter how much RAM you have, Windows wants to use the page file...

Turn the detail off and went for Nvidea to release Vista ready, working drivers.

Nah, seeing as all of my games run at about half the speed they do in XP (and yes, I've tried all the tricks like disabling SuperFetch, although it annoys me that these things have to be done in the first place) I'll just stick with an operating system that I actually don't dislike (XP). The second I get some proper free time I'm going to install Ubuntu x64 off the LiveCDs I just got posted (Very Happy) and then marvel at how the 3d effects are somehow much better than anything Windows can offer*.

* Better, but utterly pointless, and that's why I love them!

Firefox, aol, recycle bin

Aol for checking my mail

Firefox for surfing web....and recycle bin......

then I have a objectdock docking station which loads instantly when i login, it has skype, nero dvd bining software, the time.

what the heck, you guys have like 100000000 icons lol, ever heard of making folders or using the recycle bin? You guys remind me of my uncle who recruits people online, he has a clean documents folder, then all his "documents" on his desktop, even people he recruited years ago, he still has their files on his desktop lol.

I use Vista and I have not had a *single* problem with anything. Even RenGuard 1.03 with SVKP worked fine the first time.

I have no problems with
* Google (lol who the fuck started the rumor that vista cant fucking web browse to google? you are an idiot whoever you are)
* Renegade + RenGuard
* Teamspeak2
* BF2
* BF2142
* The Matrix Online
* Nero 7
* MS Office
* ITunes
* WinAmp
* Command and Conquer3
* Supreme Commander w/ dual monitor mode
* Firefox

All of the above and more work flawlessly, no compatibility mode shit etc...so don't believe the "OMG you can't run anything with Vista" haters talk.

Hardware:
Intel dual core E6400 Overclocked 30%
BFG GeForce 7950GX2 (1GB RAM, SLI)
Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard using digital audio

Not saying Vista is great or that everyone should upgrade...I'm just saying that I have so far had no problems whatsoever. The only thing I highly recommend is turning off UAC as all the prompts to "protect" you, get annoying real fast.

Ah, but if you run FRAPS on games like BF2142 in XP, then in Vista, are they the same speed or faster? That's why I didn't stay upgraded.

Oh yes, I think the entire world is unanimous in saying that. Any Vista computer I've used for any length of time I've turned it off, whether or not it's mine. Very Happy

If you're using uTorrent 1.7.1, I highly recommend switching to a Open Source client, Now.
