My sister's boyfriend recently gave me his information to MSDNAA where I have obtained Windows Vista Business Edition. I am burning the ISO to DVD for him and myself.

My question is if the activation allows you to install Vista on two computers without saying the operating system is not legit on the second computer installed on. I know on XP for example, I was able to install it on a few computers without the activation griping, but I'm not sure about Vista and don't plan to install it for myself if it won't work out on two computers.

Simply delete the iso and get yourself a pirated copy of Windows XP Professional with SP2.

Much, much better off.

I have a legit copy of Windows XP Professional. I'm just inclined to at least try Vista, but I don't want to install it if it will render the activation useless for my sister's boyfriend.

I'm not abandoning XP Professional. I have a secondary hard drive I would use to install Vista on.

Uhh, you can get a Vista trial for 30 days. Surely that'd be long enough to "try" said operating system.

As for actually using Vista, I wouldn't. I painfully used it until I was finally ambitious enough to reinstall XP, since my dual boot install was slow as Hell thanks to trying Vista.

I didn't think of that since I had a full copy sitting next to me. That's what I'm going to do then.

Thank you.

I use Vista Business Edition (which I got, coincidentally, from the MSDNAA). You can only activate it on one PC. I gave it to my housemate to try installing and he wasn't able to activate it.

Ah, thank you. That was the answer I was looking for.
The MSDNAA is a life saver though. Very Happy

Yeah, I would have liked to install it on more than one, but not to worry, my m8 downloaded XP Pro off MSDNAA about 7 times now with different keys, if you wait a bit you might be able to do the same with Vista (It seems to eventually forget you downloaded it...)

I have MSDNAA access, it hasn't prompted me to get my entitled copy of Vista. By all accounts it's pretty eye candy with no real reason to upgrade yet.

There's also an irony that MSDNAA allows non-commercial use yet they offer the commercial version of Vista.

Vista is horrible and worth uninstalling! We have it on a new office computer and it has to be the worst OS I have ever used. I would prefer windows 95 over it. Why? Nothing works like it should in Vista. Its not for someone who's computer inclined. All the functional "This programs loading", "This program's frozen" stuff is thrown out the window for spinning colours and flashy backgrounds.

Not to mention the piece of crap is more of a horde then XP when it comes to resources. WAY MORE! I have an old AMD 3200 with 1 gig of ram and it runs EVERYTHING WAY faster then the new office computer which is AMD 4200(64 bit) and 2 gigs of ram. Its just plain old dumb.

VISTA is a piece of crap and isn't needed. XP Pro is WAY more functional, reliable, resourceful and effective.

I might aswell add on aswell that I couldn't even get vista to connect to my XP network. I won't go into that because this post is long enough.

There is nothing in that post I can possibly disagree with.

Personally I quite like Vista, its stable and fairly fast on my system, would be nice if it used a bit less RAM but it's not as if it's causing problems (320mb out of 2gb is not that much really).

I agree, XP has a smaller memory footprint and is even faster, but by that logic (as has been said before) surely you would like MS DOS even more than XP? Adding new features is always going to result in higher system requirements, look at how the requirements for PC games have been shooting up in the last few years...

Yeah, but cheap-ass system builders ship Vista machines with like 512MB ram, they don't stand a chance...

I will personally move to Vista by about November, I figured that by then;

a) Any major bugs/security holes/standard Microsoft programming would have been fixed

b) I could afford it, along with another GB of RAM, bringing my total to 2 GB, so I've plenty of RAM, which can't hurt.

Vista's not that bad though I've switched back to XP now. The only real problem was slow video drivers. The OS actually ran fast, much faster than XP and the supercache thing did seem to help, most programs loaded instantly and games loaded much faster than XP (CS source maps loaded in about 5 seconds in contrast to 30 on XP). However, it ran horribly compared to XP once it did load. Vista also is basically unusable without at least 2GB of ram, just a warning.

Just tell it to make a page file on that drive.

Just be aware that even flash drives have a limited life span, and using them as paging files or with vistas readyboost could decrease their lifespan somewhat.
