Hey, I'm posting this for my friend. He's been having problems with Renegade ever since he got Vista (Home Editon, if that helps)

Anyways, he originally had a problem with renguard, so he set Game.exe to Win XP compatability mode, everything was fine, with renguard at least. When he tried downloading the patch that automatically downloads when going on Renegade online for the first time, that's when the problems started. It simply won't install. Also, his renegade shortcut has changed to the "Windows cannot recognize this file type" shortcut. Here are two screenshots he has provided me with:

Any help is appreciated, and sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Tell your friend to uninstall everything Renegade-related and to patch the game BEFORE installing RenGuard.

You have to run RenGuard in admin mode to allow it to install the patch. Right click game.exe -> Run as administrator.

It's not the renguard patch that's giving him problems. It's the patch that Renegade automatically downloads when installing it. He's tried running in admin mode and everything, and still no luck.

download it manually from the westwood ftp ( ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/renegade/updates/ ), and run as admin to make sure it installs properly.
