I've not been very active but heres a little info.
As far as I know acquiring ones HDD serial number is illegal and breaches ones privacy, banning people using this method is illegal IF I remember correctly, please look into it before you have a lawsuit on your ass

its not the HDD serial but the volume serial. so its kinda virtual and per partition.
it gets set "randomly" on formating a partition. so its not a unique identifier and hardly breaking your privacy.
but then again i dont really know for sure

Other anti-cheat software (punkbuster, etc) gets this same info and more, including processor id, MAC address, BIOS id, GUID, and even hashes of windows serial number, so go get a lawsuit on their ass.
