Make sure your firewall isn't blocking Internet access to it.

Had the same problem last year. I tried EVERYRTHING to fix it, every reinstall method(plenty of times), reinstalling windows(few times), uninstalling game completely and then windows and reinstalling, and before I did any of that I tried methods that did not involve any stalling(lol bad joke!?). My clan was very disapointed that I could not run rg, after I told them I tried everything and no solution they were losing my trust. I even got asked if I was banned from rg the problem persisted for so long. So get this, this problem almost caused me getting kicked from my clan and losing my mod powers on several servers. Well I'm still in that clan and worked my ass up to a fine leader, saved it from dying twice, and was 100% dedicated to it through the best and worst of times. And I was still a great mod, and kept my power up until that community died(mp-gaming).
As of fixing the problem, I had to format my computer to do it. Angry Hopefully that wont be the case for you. Additional information: It all started after I started using RenIP for a couple days.

Renguard authentification can be slow on some servers (up to 1 minute), it could be you get the hostmsg because it's too slow. Does the hostmsg return later in the game?

yes it says that i need renguard to play in this game when i have it, and then the host evicts me, i think my ping is very low also because all of the games have red icons or yellow icons and my laptop cannot take it i think. the game also has slow motion and i die when i try to play when the icon is red. it is hard to explain so sorry if i have confused you.

thank you

sam

Well, you're in australia and most servers are in the US and some in Europe, so your ping will always be quite high. Don't judge servers on the red/yellow ping indication though: it isn't correct.

Most servers are half renguard. That mean they will only kick you if you have been forced to use renguard.

I'd advice you to tryout a couple of servers. There are a good hundred of them, at least one should give you a good connection. To see your ping, in-game hit F8 -> FPS -> enter

A low ping is often an indication of a good connection. Your FPS should be around 60 ideally but as long as it's stable and above 30 you should be ok. SFPS should be a stable 60.

FPS stands for frames per second, which is a counter that shows how many frames your video card is rendering per second. The average person doesn't notice the difference past 60 FPS.

The average person doesn't note a difference over 25 (movies are displayed around 25).

Windows XP is as good or as bad as any other OS for playing games, it's your hardware that makes a difference!

Renegade is quite an old game so you don't need the newest hardware to play it.

That isn't true. Movies run at 24p, which is 24 frames per second being progressive. Everyone can see faster than that and tell the difference easily. If you notice at all that if you record with a cheap ass camcorder, which records at 60i (60 FPS interlaced, otherwise known as 60 fields per second), the motion looks NOTHING like a movie and is too fast. 24p is what gives movies that certain look to the motion. In a game, 24 or 25 FPS is not only slow, but also has a lot of input delay, thus making it even more annoying. Also take note that a VERY small percentage of games right now use motion blur as a post-process. When there is no motion blur, it's much easier to tell the difference in speed.

This also gives fps, sfps and kbps.
