A woman who maintains that the Harry Potter books are an attempt to teach children witchcraft is pushing for the second time to have them banned from school libraries.

crazy woman

...the books were harmful to children who are unable to differentiate between reality and fantasy.

The children, she said, try to imitate Harry Potter and cast spells on classmates.

"They're not educationally suitable and have been shown to be harmful to some kids," Mallory said.

Okay, kids who are seriously trying to cast spells on classmates are either really "special", or they are just being silly and she is paranoid.

crazy woman

Referring to the recent rash of deadly assaults at schools, Mallory said books that promote evil - as she claims the Potter ones do - help foster the kind of culture where school shootings happen.

LOL...so kids are going to read Harry Potter and then go buy assault weapons and shoot up the school?

Why in the hell would we ban books just for the sake of these few alleged kids that cannot tell fantasy from reality? You know what else would be "harmful to children who are unable to differentiate between reality and fantasy"? Almost anything on TV, or movies, or fictional books. Go watch any kids cartoon, and tell me if any human would survive if they tried to act it out. If kids watch Tom and Jerry and then go hit their mom on the head with a frying pan, and stick dynamite in their brothers ass because they saw it on TV, then guess what, its either the parents fault, or the kid just has mental problems. It doesnt mean that cartoons etc are evil just because some zombified kids will do anything they see, hear, or read.

Newsflash: kids imitate the world around them. Were kids playing gladiators with wooden swords in the ancient Rome? Were they playing knights in the medieval? Are they playing superheroes with laserguns and whatnot, as seen in comics? Are they trying to cast Magic Missile after playing some random rolegame? I don't see any difference in trying to cast spells after reading or watching Harry Potter...it's all normal. I'd be worried if it DIDN'T happen.

plus, even if they did 'cast a spell', there is no such thing as magic, so parents can sleep safe knowing they arent going to have a frog as a child.

I can't play tag, I can't play touch football, I can't have monkey bars, now I can't even read a book. Lock me in a padded room and call it even.

No, because the Care Bears teaches children that they can defeat the greatest evil by sticking out their chest and standing defiant. After all having the ability to count to zero so that beams come out of your chest is some serious baddy-beating stuff!

We had the school book "Janet and John" banned in the UK from primary schools because of stupid people like her above.

Now they suggest that "Peter Pan" should be banned as the author has put paedophillia into his books.

Where will the paranoia and political correctness all end? Back at the times of writing on a slate, is where its all heading, to slow us down.

This is all a step backwards in the natural and modern progression of well educated children.

I can't seem to find a single crediable documented instance to support this claim. Maybe you could provide one?

Sadly it's not something that can be isolated to paranoia or senseless liberalism. It's called zealotry and no self respecting religious person would ever subscribe to such childish "duck and cover"ing.

God supposedly gave us brains and I find it highly probable He wouldn't do that unless He intended us to use them to discern reality from fiction.

But if something has the potential to cause someone to become ill-minded it should be done away with!

It does not matter that everything ever made (human or nature) has that potential to do that, it MUST be done away with!

Heh, I know that much.

The jest I was making was that some people take things that aren't so bad, and place the blame where it shouldn't be.

I wish I could meet this stupid bitch...GOD DAMN BIBLE BASHING AMERICANS..

Moving on from my rant..I think I may go read some Harry Potter then I may rack up a M16..Go down to my old school and open up. Oh wait Harry Potter is just a book..Why oh why would anyone think that. Jesus I know herion addicts that are more sensible then her..Someone really needs to sit down with her and have a "chat". By this I mean tie her up and check if she has a brain.

True story: A friend of mine decieded to have a fun time getting completely wasted on alcohol and drugs...He then started reading the bible (big mistake). He got so paranoid by reading the bible that I found him locked in his bedroom refusing to come out until I burnt the bible. Maybe it was the drugs...Maybe it was the alcohol..Maybe it was the combination of both. Reading the bible is worse then reading anything else in this world.

Completely offtopic but Meh Do I Care?

That leaves us in a very empty world. What offends one person is hilarious to another.

Equally so with, "the potential to cause". If you dont like it! leave it. If you think it will harm you, dont read, touch, eat feel.....etc This way the rest of the world can still enjoy.

ps. Im looking forward to the next Harry Potter book Big Ups
