We get a little story from our english teacher, we must interpret it.

To show you the effect try this:
*read the story (only once)
*write down what do you think happened
*reread the story and try to find proof for your thesis

Belive me you will enjoy it discussing who has the ultimative, right thesis about what happens. (don't use interpretations from other people, thats worthless)

Okay, here is the story:
The Scarlatty Tilt
"It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with
a man who's learning to play the violin." Thats what she told
the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

lol, i like that one

Its basicly saying that this girl has to live with this guy in this studio, and he is always playing the violin... So she has shot the guy with the revolver because she is sick and tired of him playing the violin. Shen then confess's to the cops and hands them the empty revolver that she shot the guy with!!!

umm

*farts*

I get the feeling the woman gave the police the violin players revolver after accidents of violin player abuse from strangers. Smile

It doesn't say that anything happened. You don't even know if she is the one living in the apartment. It could be murder, suicide, accident or nothing really happened. The guy was trying to learn the violin. He could have even shot the violin because he was getting pissed that he sucked. Razz

R.I.P. TreyD. You will be missed, but not forgotten.

I thinkthat she was pisswed at the guy for always playing the violion but didn't want to kill him so she handed the gun to the cops so that she wouldn't kill him.

Heh...

It doesn't say he died, it doesn't say that it was her revolver, or that she used it, it doesn't say that she was confessing to anything, etc.

She could have been a gun enthusiast who was practicing her aim at a target range, she was telling a story about her old friend who was learning the violen, she emptied her revolver down range, checked the target and handed the gun to the officer who was supervising the range.

She could have been a detective investigating a case about a suspect killing his/her friend who was learning the violen. She handed the policeman the empty revolver she found in the suspect's apartment, telling them what she thinks so far about the motive for why the suspect killed him.

There are an infinite of possibilities.

I agree.

The incidents of the violin player and the handing of a revolver have no connection, in my opinion.

The problem with this (very) short story is, there is much room for interpretation. Very Happy

Yeah I think thats the idea of that type of question. You have to say what you think happened and prove it buy saying how it happened. Obviously a theory like "Aliens cam down and droppend an empty reveolver into some womans hand" is not going to work as the text doesn't support this. It does however support most of the answers given above from other people.
