I got my HD Sony TV today (asked it for christmas, delivery was a bit 'late'...).

Anyway, once I get a HDMI cable, I will show you how it looks when connected to a computer. It's awesome, I tested it in the store.

It's a 32 inch wide TV (82 cm)

You've just earned a whole lot of respect for having Snatch and Fight Club in your movie collection, damn good movies.

That screen also looks sweet, I can just imagine playing BF2 on it or such.

Mind you, won't the resolution be kinda fubar for some games?

Not exactly. 720p isn't that high res (1 megapixel), and you need a good computer to run anything well on 1080p.

He has a good computer, and 1920x1080 could be possible to run.

Well the resolution for the HD TV is enough for I want to do:

this screen can handle : 1366 x 768 pixels

http://www.pricescan.com/electronics/items/item524928.asp

Sony KLV-S32A10 bravia

And to support that I have aquite decent computer as Icedog said:

2GB DDR RAM PC3200
Athlon 64 3500+
7200RPM SATA HDD
Geforce 6800GT AGP8X 256 MB DDR3

Anyway, I still need to buy one of those Dvi to HDMI cable to get the stuff on the TV. The cost is a bit high: 92 Euros (like 100 dollars for one) And I need to save a bit my money this month for other stuff, Once I get the money next month I will post screenshots with some game tests on that huge 'computer screen'.

Your PC is identical to mine other than that I have two SATAs in RAID0. That and you probably haven't overclocked, but all the hardware is the exact same :S

I sometimes play Renegade on my 57" HDTV with my media center PC. Sadly due to the video card in it, I can only play at 480x720. If it ever breaks I will get one of the newer HDTVs that can do higher resolutions. Its a blast to play on a big screen with the home theatre surround sound. Makes it easy for spectators to watch you play too.

Almost same here, except I only have 1 250gb SATA hdd and an athlon 4000+.

Just out of curiosty what is RAID and what does it do? I'm only really starting to get into the computer building phase.

RAID allows you to link two hard drives together. If I remember correctly, this is how it goes:

RAID 0:
Two hard drives are linked together. The total space is the combined space of both of the drives.

RAID 1:
The contents of one drive are copied onto the second drive for further backup of data.

It's something like that at least. Just search Google for a better answer.

yeah. The advantage of raid1 is obvious, but with raid0 it means both HDs are working together to put things on what looks to them like the same volume...So you get twice the speed.

For example with my old WD 5400rpm HDD, when loading windows the little blue bars moved across the screen 22 times before it would startup. Now they go across two times at most.

You have to have two of teh exact same hard drives though don't you?

I might think about that, when I find a job anyway.

You don't have to have the exact same kind/size, but the array will end up being two times the size of the smallest drive, so you will have wasted space.

Actually we're at Raid 5 at the moment, which uses a minimum of 3 HDD's. It randomly uses 1 to put part of the data, one other for another part of the data and the third for a control data. When one crashes, it can restore the data thanks to the info on the other 2 disks. When you put 4 or more HDD's in, more than one may crash at the same time, it'll still be able to restore your data.

It's normally only used for servers, seems like a bit of overkill for a home computer.

I have 3 15,000 RPM Ultra320 SCSI drives in my PC...they seem plenty fast enough so I don't bother to RAID them.

Damn, those are not cheap. When using SCSI Burner is it true that it won't use 100% CPU resources when burning? unlike ata/sata

Yes true as the IO is done by the SCSI controller instead of your CPU.

I was thiking about getting the Infocus X3 projector for the Superbowl which has 720p, 1080i ...native resolution of 1024 x 768

Im from MA and the Patriots lost in the 2nd round, so most likely I wont be getting this. My question is how would my PC look on this with my fx5900 which has a DVI out?

Im not talking playing Renegade or CSS on a 9 foot screen but something like 60 inches Big Grin

Does anyone have experience with the X3 projector?
