Don't do it, Alienware is a rip off.

Buy the parts and build it yourself.

Agreed, highly overpriced.
Buy the parts, and if you dont know how to do it, find someone who does, its not hard.
AlienWare computers arent even the best anyway.
I can bulid better ones with 1500.

They "start at $4450." So if he got a mid range one it probably cost more than that. Should of just saved the 2000+ dollars and learned how to overclock. A 3200+ comes much cheaper than that FX55(by like $600 or more) and can easily reach the same speeds or greater. Same with the RAM, and instead of SLI'd 6800s I'd just get one 7800GTX.

Oh well, as long as you're happy with your decision I guess that's all that matters.

I hate how a LOT of people tend to think that Alienware is God with computer performance.

They are good computers, just not worth the price.

I wish I had the money for an alienware computer, then I could buy all the parts for a better computer, cheaper.

I mean for the price of an alienware you could build your own kickass computer.

He helped me with the buying of it.I actually only saved about 1300 dollars and he paid the rest but for a 15 year old I think I did pretty well (I dont even have a job)!! ( I had to do work for him to earn up the amount he paid)

The most expensive computers I have seen are the go-l ones (http://www.go-l.com/home/index.htm). I once speced out a PC there that was $40,000 lol. They have some really awesome custom laptops too, and crazy shit like RAID arrays of non-mechanical hard disks (PureRAM)

Quote:

Introducing the first desktop computer configurable WITHOUT a system hard drive. The Operating system and system files reside on a PuRam™ solid state flash disk with near zero latency and seek times, and burst transfer rates up to 8.5GB/s I/O, capable of over 150,000 I/O requests per second, all with an average of 0.0% CPU utilization. This translates into an effective desktop business productivity of up to 100 times faster than the fastest available hard disk design at any price or configuration. These are non-volatile units just like a regular hard drive with a permanent storage cycle. There are no more virtual memory or swap file delays (since now they are as fast as RAM) and there are no more System Disk Defrags (memory is random so it does not need defragging). Windows boots-up in seconds, load your games and apps in seconds, and start any program virtually instantly. Also moving, copying, or working on large files has literally no slow-down affect in the blistering fast computing speed. Furthermore, PuRam™ Drives are extremely resistant to shock, vibration and temperature variations, while providing unprecedented performance and superior durability. Allied to our CacheFlow™ technology, the PuRam™ Drives give your audio, video, CAD, graphic, gaming, industrial or scientific applications the most, compelling and unmatched data through output speeds. Absolutely like no other.

Even the lowest model go-l computers put Alienware stuff to shame, it's like comparing a Ford Pinto and the Space Shuttle.

Probably the most interesting computer design that I've ever seen is at Cybernet. One of their models is a computer inside a keyboard, the other is a computer inside a monitor. It doesn't take up much room, though heat might be a problem. =/ And I don't think that the computers are extremely powerful either. You win some, you loose some.

I'd pay $4k just for the Alienware case. It's hot.
