I was just on an irc channel having a discussion about different genres of music.

I thought it would be interesting to see your points of view on the topic.

I'm currently studying a BTEC national diploma in music at my local college and I'm learning about different styles of music, and the structure etc.

I've really grown to aprpeciate a wide range of music over the years. As you will see by my list.

My all time favourite has be Led Zeppelin due to their massive inspiration, amazing solos, talent, songwriting ability and stage presence.

But enough about that, some of my favourite bands are:

3 Doors Down
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Alice Cooper
Audioslave
Bon Jovi
Black Sabbath
Boston (havn't heard alot)
Bryan Adams
Chris Rea
Dire Straits
Eminem (not all of his stuff, but things like the cover of Aerosmith - Dream on, I love)
Eric Clapton
Europe (yes I know they only had The Final Countdown but hey, what a classic!)
Fleetwood Mac
Foo Fighters (I wish I was Dave Grohl)
Guns 'N' Roses
Incubus
Intwine
Iron Butterfly
James Brown
Jamie Cullum
Jimi Hendrix
Joe Satriani
John Williams
Katatonia (Swedish rock band not Welsh pop band spelt with a C)
Korn
Led Zeppelin
Lostprophets
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Maralyn Manson
Mark Knopfler (solo stuff as well as Dire straits)
Metallica
Michael Jackson
Muse
Nickelback
Oasis
Phil Collins
Pixies
Queen
Queens Of The Stone Age
REM
Rage Against The Machine
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Stereophonics
Steve Vai
The Eagles
The Hives
The Smashing Pumpkins
Thin Lizzy
Tony Iommi (solo stuff as well as sabbath)
Travis
Yngwie Malmsteen
ZZ Top

There may be more. I'm also into Blues, I'm a massive fan of Jazz too. I beleive some of the world's best musicians are Jazz musicians.

As my composition tutor quite rightly said:

Quote:

I don't beleive there is such a thing as bad music, only music with potential played badly.

What about you?

Note: Please don't turn this into a rap vs metal vs rock topic, whatever.

I think my list would as big as all three of y'alls, so I'm just gonna say Classic Rock, plus Green Day and Gorillaz.

Mostly classic rock, alternative rock, hard rock, metal, heavy metal, and a little bit of everything else.

About the only band I like that hasn't been listed already is Godsmack.

Why don't you just place a poll in here?

Then, you can see what genres are most popular.

Anything that sounds good.

My interest is mostly around indie rock and alternative though. I like classic rock too but I don't listen to it nearly as much.

An example of indie rock would be the band The Velvet Teen. I'm sure none of you have heard of them.

1:Death (my number one band, Everything was great from this band, The music, their inspiration, non commercial. R.I.P Chuck Schuldiner)
2: control denied (another music project from Chuch Schuldiner)
3: Iron maiden
4: Cannibal corpse
5: Suffocation
6: slayer (their old music)
7: kreator (their old music)
8: Morbid angel (except their albums "heretic" and "Gateways To Annihilation"
9: Pantera (R.I.P Dimebag Darrell)
10: Vader (R.I.P Krzysztof "Docent" Raczkowski)

There are alot more metal/deathmetal band I like, ALOT more.

Some "normal" music:

1: The eagles
2: Led zeppelin
3: Dire Straits
4: pink floyd
5: toto

The most music I play and listen in death trash/heavy metal/death metal. I don't like bands like slipknot and stone sour, Nu metal or whatever it is called.

My "idols" are:

1: steve digiorgio ;the master at bass guitar, he played in bands like: iced earth (cd: horrorshow). testament, death (cd: "Human"
and "individual thought patterens"), conrol denied (cd: the fragile art of existance")

2: steve harris; Iron maiden bass player, he's damn fast to, But I don't think he'll be able to play the things like steve digiorgio does.

3: alex webster; Cannibal corpse bass player. He's also Ultra great. I have alot cannibal corpse dvd's and he really plays his balls off. death metal bass, jazz, everything.

Yes I'm a drummer Smile almost 3 yeats straight.

Joey Jordison and Dave Lombardo are good drummers yes. But Ibeleive metal drummers, talented though they are are overrated. I'm not saying they are crap, they have incredible talent but there are better drummers out there.

Jazz drummers are among the best in the world. I've been lucly enough to meet Billy Cobham in person. Such a nice guy and such amazing talent.

I'd also like to add Buddy Rich to my list.

Interesting.

I don't see why you wouldn't like a single thing after 1997 though.

My personal Favourite album is from 2000. Tony Iommi collaborating with other artists such as Henry Rollins, Skin, Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan, Ozzy and more.

It's a truely awesome CD I suggest you buy it. It's just called "Iommi".
