Syria is being accused by most of the international community of being responsible of the assassination of the former Lebanese Prime Minister...

U.S. recalls its Ambassador from Syria.

The Lebanese and most of the international community want the Syrian armed forces out of Leban.

Syria forms an alliance with Iran due to the current situation.

There is massive opposition from the EC over that actually Jake....not to mention the English public completely opposes any assault, attack or troop mobiliaztion against Iran, even our foriegn secretary is trying to talk the US down from Iran....simply put, we neither want, nor can afford another war in the gulf....and its coming up to the General Elections here so for now our government will say No.

Yeah, but if we go after Syria, (most of) the world will support it, and then Iran will join in, so we'd end up getting our way. Smile

So does the WHO against aids. The Board of Education on illiteracy. That's like,

"HOLD ON HOLD ON, WHEN THE US INVADED IRAQ THE PRESSSSSSSSIDENT (NOT MAI PRESIDENT BY THE WAY!!!!11!) WAS BREATHING AIR!!! NOW THE IRANIANS AND SYRIANS BREATHE AIR AND THEY ARE AN AXIS OF EVIL!!??!? HOW DOES THAT WORK! STOP HYPOCRISY IN FOREIGN AFFAIRS! IMPEACH BUSH!!!1!111"

You can't pull a random similarity out of thin air and expect people to applaud you for sleuthing out some secret injustice.

in all honesty i dont care if there really IS or ISNT terrorist activity or nuclear weapons being built in either syria or iran, the fact remains that if any troops are sent to either country or an assualt made on either country the Arab nations will see it as an attack on one race of people and one religion and will probably band together against the US and those nations supporting them, what will all this acheive? Not a war against Terrorism (as is Bush's "agenda") but a war of Christian vs Muslim (and here i thought the crusades were hundreds of years ago  )

They feel they are being persecuted and really looking at the series of events who can blame them.
Don't forget that old saying: "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter". They are raised to believe Mr America or Mr UK is the enemy, for said parties to then stroll into their country and tell them they are wrong is bound to piss them off a bit.

"one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter".

Not necessarily true. A terrorist is anyone who tries to unlawfully impose a culture or ideal on someone else through violent means. So while the state of mind of someone may say "he's a freedom fighter for such and such reasons, lets join him!", the freedom fighter is also likely (but not necessarily) a terrorist too.

If the US attacks Syria, then Iran said they would back them up. When (if) Iran gets involved, suddenly invading Syria is not going to be easy at all. Iran is much stronger than Iraq, and they can fend for themselves pretty much.

I know this is still the US that we're talkng about, but its going to be a lot harder invading anywhere else in the middle east. Many of the countries involved in supporting the US in Iraq probably won't be there. Spain and France won't support. I doubt the UK will either from the general mood of the citizens there.

I made it clear that they would back up Syria without an actually expecting an invasion of any sort. This was probably just to get the US to think twice about attacking anything.

The nuclear weapons development is rubbish. Iran consumes almost as much electrical power as it produces (est 2001). Therefore the need for nuclear powerplants is perfectly viable.

Ya, but for the main part it is. I live in Manchester England and i was in the city in 1996 when the IRA bombed it....They to me are terrorists, but to many in Ireland they were lashing out against a ristricting and invading government that was (as far as they were concerned) intruders, dictators and unwelcome "authority figures" invading their country and telling them how to lead their lives and what they could and couldnt do...If i remember correctly, didnt Hitler do the same in WWII and when we defeated him we called it freedom fighting....(Also reminds me of another proverb: To the Victor go the spoils...The worlds History is written by those who win) :lookround:

Yes of course. To the side you're on, you probably call yourself a freedom fighter. Whether you want to admit it or not, you are imposing a belief through violent means in order to get your point across, and THAT is terrorism.

I believe, however, (although this is an assumption) that there was an international sanction for the invasion of Germany, so it can't very well be illegal, hence terrorism, now can it? Wink

I could have sworn Iraq had more forces than Iran. That's why we had to help Iran out with Iraq, cause they couldn't themselves. At any rate this is all water under the bridge... What happens will happen and if Syria, Iran and others all band together. They still can't defend themselves.
