Well, I was walking home from school today, and some guy on a bike yelled for me to get out of the way. I raised my saxophone (I'm in the school band) to get it out of the way of this guy, but the timing was off, and he plowed right into it, knocking him off the bike. I went over him and asked him repeatedly if he was all right, and if he needed help up. He didn't respond, and after a minute or so was able to lift himself up. He then started telling me that I had better pay him some amount of money or he'd call the cops on me, or sue me, or both. I told him I was sorry, but he continued. Finally, I reached into my wallet to get him to leave me alone, but I didn't have any money, so he was all "You better have $20 by Monday or I'm calling the cops." I said "Whatever." and he got on his bike and left and I finished walking home. So, what do you think I should do? I don't think he has a case, and I really don't want to pay this idiot (who didn't even really bother to brake) any money, but on the other hand, I don't want this to turn into a big ugly issue. What's your advice? Pay him the money or just ignore this guy?

PS. I don't think anything was broken. He was able to get up in a second. He also seemed to have tough skin; that is, there wasn't any blood. I'm sure it was painful, but I made it very clear that I was sorry, and he didn't seem to really need any medical attention or even any bandages. Plus, he has no legal grounds anyway Razz

EDIT: Sarcasm is difficult to detect over the Internet, so I added a few things to reinforce the meaning here.

Honestly, who broke the law? Him or you? Him, obviously. He's manacing you, he wants money in exchange of some "peace of mind" for you, let him go tell the cops, by doing so he'll be falling in his own trap.

I suck cock and love it... absolutely love it. And I just got banned for being too immature to be allowed to post here.

If he causes you sleepless nights or whatever if he ends up suing you and then you can always counter-sue. But until he takes any actions against you, just ignore the fucker. Or...you could always produce like a few counterfit bills and let him get into trouble with the law that way.

Whatever you do DO NOT pay him. Nothing would prevent him from suing you regardless of the payment. If this was to turn into a lawsuit, consult a lawyer (even if it just goes through small claims - many give consultations for free), and hope hat the judge is smart enough not to fall for any "extreme injury" without proof.

I forgot to add the  at the end. Whoops. LOL.

He was riding ON THE SIDEWALK. (Check One. If he calls the 'cops,' he'll just get a citation.)

He didn't even bother to brake.

I considered giving him money just to make him go away, but I didn't have any, and I'm not going to let this guy extort money out of me, especially when he broke the law to run headfirst into my (thankfully well-built) saxophone case. He wasn't badly beat-up, either. So, I know he has no legal ground for doing this.

Too bad leaving out one emoticon can seriously change how people respond, heheh.

LOL, what a tool. You were going to pay him to leave you alone? WTF is wrong with you. Then you worry about if he really has something against you because he ran into on his bike. LOL, seriously, were you really going to pay him?

My advice to you is forget about him. If does come around again, slap him and tell him to learn how to ride a bike. Plus you guys are kids (so it sounds), shit like this happens.

If someone pushes you around (by him telling you to pay him and you actually going to), dont fucking bend over take it in the ass. Stand up for yourself. The dumbfuck ran into you.

You can't prove that he did without a DNA test on the sidewalk with the skin samples left there. Furthermore "standing up for yourself" is looked down upon in our society and usually results in the defender being punished more severely than the attacker.

umm... I am no legal expert, but I think that DNA testing for a case of nearly hit by a bike is out of the question, unless it was a GTA San Andes bike incedent...

No. Seriously. No.

Who gives a fuck if it is looked down on in our society? Standing up for yourself is not meant to make you look like a super hero, its meant to make it to where people dont walk all over you, and recieve money just by telling you to do so or else.

He hurt himself doing something illegal. Therefore, his 'lawsuit' wouldn't get very far. I'm not going to go out of my way to punch this guy in the face -- he didn't threaten me physically. If he decides to come looking for me for money, I'll tell him 'no.' If he decides to attack me, I'll kick his ass from here to Wednesday. I do happen to have a large heavy instrument I can beat him with... Smile

Tell that to the people who break into your house. If you shoot them you'll go to jail and they'll get a lesser sentence.

Standing up for yourself doesn't include being stupid and going to jail. If you're going to beat the shit out of someone like that, do it where you won't be seen.

Well, I don't know about where you are, but in Tennessee you're allowed to shoot for self defense. In fact, one man killed an intruder and didn't get any punishment.
