Whats the possibility of making a wol broadcasting app similiar to wolspy but it does the opposite, broadcasts gamespy players in wol.

I say this because a couple of things can then happen:

1, BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT: Say good bye to the wol connection loss error. SInce server is gsa based it won't have to be dependant on wol buggy irc.

2, cdkey banning: finnaly have the feature gsa servers have but wol was denied, no longer would you be at the mercy of the dreaded dynamic ip.

3, gsa>wol Razz but i won't get into that...

I can't play on GSA.

Everytime i join a game i get something about CD key shit.

I DID buy the game.

And there are a lot of people that have the same problem like me.

I agree with the first two 100% but the third only partially because:

GSA 'infrastructure' is better than WOL's indeed, but:

-those long names man.. <pukes> and
-those special chars <pukes> and
-not having the oppertunity to see who are ingame be4 joining <pukes> and
-having to quit whole of renegade just to switch server <pukes>
-kicking someone is always a qkick <pukes>
-alot of players have the cheap-ass version of Renegade and cant even play on the server lol <pukes>

I think I asked djLapop about this when he released WOLspy. He said that showing WOL servers on GSA was relatively easy, but doing it the other way around was nearly impossible. It's a shame, because then we could have Linux servers on WOL like we thought we'd be getting all those years ago...

Did anyone forget to mention that you'd be able to run a server from Linux and no depend on Windows all the time? Smile

It would also mean an end to the WOL ladder system.

Gamespy = sucks.

Here's why.

A) It loads tons of spyware crap on to your computer. If you have Gamespy installed on your computer, you might as well light the hard drive on fire. Unless, of course, you download a spyware removal program.

B) It takes twice as long as WOL to load and/or do anything.

C) Gamespy = sucks.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

I havent encountered any gamespy "Spyware" with any spy removal programs ive used. . .

The extras 15 seconds to load, boo hoo cry about it

GSA>WOL because of the name length also, no 9 cahracter limit no caps or character restrictions

GSA>WOL again because frankly I believe that Gamespy cares more about Renegade then EA ever will.

Use The All Seeing Eye for all your GSA Servers need. No spyware, no ads, no chatrooms, just pure server listings.

GSA sucks. 15 seconds does mean a lot. 15 seconds could mean the turning point in a game.

The name length is annoying. UGIN2 was turned into a WOLSpy server for a few and it was annoying as hell to see my scores fucked up because morons decided to add stupid characters and words to their names.9 letters is plenty long enough.

EA sucks, plain and simple. That doesn't mean that GameSpy cares more for the game, they just care more about getting more members.

you can restrict how long names can be on gamespy via a server patch, you can also dissable people form charaters not easily accesable on the keyboard (unicode chars)

but I heard bhs wanted to do this with thier bhs.dll so I didn't release it... Also it seemed to have a conflict with wolpsy for some reason (ever see those wierd wolspy type wierd commands to the fds)

Well that's just the server owner's fault. By not installing renguard in their servers they're openly saying "all hackers welcome."

Wouldn't it be GSA, not WOL causing those though?
