Funny how "everyone" has "heard" the "rumor", but when you ask them where/who they heard it from, they STFU.

IF is does get released, it should probably (and probably would) be handed to BHS only. Then BHS can get coders under NDAs to work on a patch, and then release the patch after thorough testing. By the time any sort of patch was made, I'd be 18 and happy to sign an NDA to help test, but I think a 3D engine might be beyond my six months of programming experience. lol

I want to frame it on my wall for example.

Everyone should use the updated scripts 3.4.4 and be happy about it.

If a new update was made, it should only fix client bugs, nothing to do with balance or anything of that sort, only client bugs and new maps.

You cannot please all of the people, all of the time. No matter what happens, you can be sure that there will be lots of complaints. I feel sorry for software developers, all they get is complaints and no props for all their hard work.

Sorry to say but it is EA,

It wont come and if it comes certain people will hold ot back and probably build in renguard and what so ever.

Like Renguard stuck in brenbott you gota disable it yourself if you dont want it.

Probably they (who would get it)would force all kinds of nasty shit clients or server owners dont want.

This does not weighs up only I'd love the lag to be fixed.

I voted yes, but EA wont do it.

This is still the same engine as generals and what so ever (if im correct)

If EA is going to release the source code of Renegade, it would only be to kill Renegade.
It's going to be a disaster. Think about it.
Anyone who understands just a little bit about coding knows that when this source will be released, it's going to be heaven paradise for cheat creators.
Within a few weeks Renegade will be crawling with cheaters, and it will die, just in time for EA's release of their new "C&C" game Tiberium...

If I disregard the deficit of cohesion between his statements, and the lack of proper spelling and use of symbols I think I know what he was trying to say, and I lol'd. No hard feelings though Brandan Wink

Well, actually this "theory" is more true than most people would think. Some people at EA (mostly 1 person) basically stated that something along the lines of renegade's source code being released was going to happen, "soon". The explanation was that not now because of the other things going on with C&C, kanes wrath, tiberium, and RA3, but to "expect" it when things cooled down a little.

My quesiton is this, apart from the obviously HUGE advantage I think having access to the update servers (let alone the source code), what kind of benefits would be possible from the (hopefully private) release of the renegade source code?

And not unrealistic, we all know how much EA like to grab money. Not that we'd buy tiberium, we'd just struggle on, or move to Renegade 2007 or something similar.

It will be total chaos someone should take the source and lock it away and mayby fix some very annoying bugs.

And thats it.

Otherwise cheat-a-holic, and renegade will die!

There's always a big chance of the code leaking out if any one person were to get the code.

It officialy isnt a total conversion.

Because it still uses the basic renegade folder (rp2 is a pkg file)

A pkg is basicaly a mix file so a new map with stuff in it.
(correct me if im wrong)

EA should just keep it, if we are already getting fustrated what will happen if it really will be released?

Rp2 is not a total conversion, we decided to keep it as a PKG mod because that way more people will be able to see our mod being played along with the Ren servers and download it. Not all Ren players are involved in the community.

Regardless, if the source was released to smaller (but equally talented if not moreso) mod teams like ours, we could still make quite a lot of use in implementing new scripts etc. Zion Fox's snobby elitist opinion about this matter really pisses me off.
