Badminton was the next best thing to archery for me back in high school phys ed... unlike tennis, I could smack that damn birdie as hard as I felt like and not cause it to bounce out of the court or hit anybody. I have fond memories of competing witht he few other phys-ed haters in my class to see who could get the most birdies stuck in the light fixtures or on top of the a/c units in the gym...

In all seriousness, my definition of what constitutes a 'sport' is rather broad. I'd lump riflery, archery, skydiving, scuba, and most other physical, outdoor, or competitive recreational activities in with 'sports.' Badminton might not be as likely to result in personal injury as football or... well, football, but a sport it is.

Remember, kids: illiteracy is cool. If you took the time to read this, you are clearly a loser who will never get laid. You've been warned.

First time saw it years ago, I was like those kids just aren't inshape to actually play anything else, its not really hard, and takes mininal strength/movement, but its quite amusing at times Satisfied

You didn't see them play competitively. Big Grin

A couple years back, for shits and giggles, a couple buds and I decide to 'try-out' for the high-school badminton team.

So you're looking at five white guys, who are all around 5'9 -6'1, we all played rugby, and two others wrestled.

We head into the gym, and find that we are the only white dudes in there. The rest are all Asian, and they are all shorter, and thinner than us.

Of course, all five of us thought this is going to be f*cking easy. We weren't all that fast, but we were all about muscle, and arm power, so we all agreed that we'd have this try-out wrapped up in half an hour, and we'd be Canadian champions in about two-weeks, give or take.

We got our asses deep-fried, basted, herbed, and handed to us within five minutes. I've never seen such speed in my life. They were so clever, that they just used our power shots against us, and made us run all over the place diving for the birdie.

After that day, I got a new respect for the game.

I decided that I'd be better served in Volleyball. Watching it that is. Especially Women's Volleyball on ESPN.

I have played this quite a bit and the way I see it is that with Badminton you need better hand eye coordination and more agility but with tennis you need more stamina and power. I have found that tennis is a lot more physically demanding but that is not to say Badminton is easy. On another note Squash sucks Razz.

Your signature is too long and if you don't change it, it will be changed for you.

Back on topic, I don't see where the debate is here. Badminton is a sport, whether you agree or not is a matter of opinion. Nothing anyone here says or does changes the fact that it is a sport.

If it involves a projectile and you can make it extreme, I say yes.

And there are ways to make badminton extreme...

I played Badminton with clay once which was pretty extreme. It worked surprisingly well the only problem is that it is really hard to get off walls when entirely flattened.

edit: shorten your sig... you've had time to post, you've also had time to get rid of some of your sig.

The spoilers don't work and make your signature STILL too big. Read the fucking rules and follow them.

Edit: http://www.thekingsthrone.net/misc/toobig.jpg

Since my resolution is 1280x1024, it's a bit too big of an image to show, but regardless, your signature is FAR larger than 150px.
