Here's my take on poverty: too fucking bad. If we really want people to work together and end poverty, then maybe it's time for Democrats and the government to stop thinking that they're fucking Robin Hood. Don't touch my money, and maybe I'll donate it. Maybe not. It's my money that I earned, and too fucking bad if I or someone else decides to be greedy. Especially since the government doesn't do anything other than throw money at the problem. Maybe if people were forced to rely on each other instead of the government, it wouldn't be so hard for things to get done efficiently. If you always let people take the easy way out then they just become dependent, and then the nation just becomes a bunch of puppets for the government.

Another prime example of how throwing money at education doesn't help. Over the past few decades (and inflation factored in), schools are getting SEVERAL times more money per kid, yet there seems to be no positive results from that. This is what happens when you're not forced to rely on the community and each other. "The government needs to give us more money..." Yeah, THAT WORKS! Sarcasm

I'm a complete supporter of Social Darwinism. Let the strongest survive and strengthen the species. A herd of animals don't go rescue their old and diseased when being attacked by predators for a reason. Why should we be doing the same thing? After all, liberals tend to want to say that humans are just "smart animals". If that's the case, then let natural selection work on the human race.

I agree with you for the most part. However, the government of the United States still has a duty to protect the city of New Orleans. It's not as if the city was totally filled with impoverished people. There were quite a few who were well off.

Plus, New Orleans was a major tourism destination, especially with Mardi Gras, and those tourism dollars help fuel the economy. The government should have had the foresight to protect the tourist destination, in order to keep and attract investment, and to keep those tourism dollars coming.

Right... except that many had no means of leaving the city.

The FEMA shelters that were offered were subpar, and the processes were grossly mismanaged. Hell, the people were treated like crap in many cases. With all that, of course they'd rather try and stick it out through the storm. All they had to their name was their property, and maybe not even that.

Remember, these people had little or no insurance. So even if they left, they'd come back to nothing. I find it disgusting that people from New Orleans are relying on Red Cross donations, even though they live in the wealthiest nation on Earth.

Let me get one thing straight. You're telling me that you'd rather risk your life and stay in the middle of a hurricane, of which will no doubt flood your house, your neighborhood, and your city and all so that you wouldn't get mis-treated for a while? Even if I was certain to be mistreated, I would leave even my current house in the suburbs mind you. Regardless of whether they stayed in their house or not is irrelevant to the fact on whether they had insurance or not. Unless they can somehow mutate into a some sort of comic book hero at the last second, they aren't stopping that water from reaching their property any faster than the levees did.

As for the 'looking to the past' comment... well, this administration certainly didn't do their homework in Middle East History 101. If they had looked to the past, and critically evaluated it, there'd likely be no Iraq war. That's because the Middle East was a powderkeg, filled to the brim with religious hostility, big ego's, burning sun, and hot sand; not exactly a great place to cause a scuffle.

Show me a country where it would be a great place to cause a scuffle. They don't exist.

I'm not sure about yours...

...but I doubt you've ever collected bottles for anything other than a school bottle drive. I guess I used to be 'stupid' .

Calling poor people, 'stupid' , is ignorant. I guess all those people in Bangladesh are 'stupid'. China must be full of 'stupid' people too. Hell, Africa must be a whole continent of 'stupid'. I guess all those homeless people on our streets suffering from Schizophrenia and Depression are 'stupid' too, huh?

Funny... I hit ctrl+F, type in poor and the first thing I find is your post. The author didn't even make reference to poor folks in his rant. Meaning you're grasping at straws.

My background didn't start off breezy either, but my father worked his ass off his entire life to give his family everything. I don't give a shit about what these people say. Things such as "The rich keep the poor down." don't exist. If you think they do then that's a poor-ass excuse for your own faults in life. My father is a prime example that hard work does pay off.

I could say more about your expectations that the government will always be there to bail you out, but you're too stupid to leave a city that's below sea level when there's a hurricane approaching.

The people who were herded into the Astrodome, the people who had to deal with FEMA's ineptness, the people who are still suffering today... are mainly some of America's poorest. The ones who left were the ones who could afford to.

Now, if the city had PROPERLY BUILT floodwalls, and had a real plan in place for such a disaster, then I wouldn't feel so bad for the people of that city. However, the floodwalls were shoddy, and insufficient, and even the Army Corps commander resigned because he knew that they had built subpar installations.

Therefore, the government is responsible. I'm sure if your house was destroyed, and you found out that the situation could have been better, or even prevented if the government did its job, you'd be going after them as well.

I actually disagree with this statement. The 'No Child Left Behind' policy, while still flawed in some areas, is just one example of Bush reaching out to ethnicities, and especially the Black and Hispanic populations.

Jecht, you are my hero. In Love You say what i think so I don't have to type it out. Razz

If you idiots say that George Bush doesn't care about the people in New Orleans, then why did I hear on the news for THREE FUCKING WEEKS that the hurricane was going to hit. If anyone is at fault for that tragic disaster, it was the governer of Louisiana for not sending aid to them.

He told George to literally "Get the fuck out of my state and let me handle it my way." It is also the fault of the 60s liberal hippies that designed the walls. They only designed the walls to hold up to a category 3 hurricane. Hurricane Katrina was a category 5. They didn't build it strong enough because, "oh noes, we cannnot build the walls to withstand a category 6 hurricane because it will intrude on the black bears territory." I really don't think that bears are more important than a city of 6 million + people.

Bush is not the problem with Katrina destroying New Orleans, it was the governer.

FWIW... those " '60's Liberal Hippies" were the Army Corps.

2 posts from the end and I was saved from typing exactly what you have typed, I am overjoyed that someone else noticed that it was the governor's fault.
