There are over 8000 unique players (by serial hash) who use RenGuard in a given week. If you want to be generous and say that half of all Renegade players are on RG, then that makes about 16,000 players. If you want to be less optimistic and say only 10% of Renegade players are RG users, then there are about 80,000 people still playing Renegade.

I'm the bawss.

I remember knowing about the game in like 1998 or something... and when it released I only borrowed it for a couple weeks and got incredibly addicted. Then, I bought it somewhere around June I think. I would suppose I'm a vet... Wink

...Which is grossly overestimated because Renegade peaked out around 80,000 users a few years ago. At most it has 12,000 left, if even that.

Nah I think that is reasonable since on any given day a lot of unique serials sign on and off.

Thx Crim, you're always there when it is needed. Smile

I've been playing the game around 7 months after the release. Once I joined these forums I got more into making maps and models for the game than actually playing it.

You're being generous even with that figure.

I've just released I've never actually bought Renegade. I still have the text file full of serials, too. Fun times.

You all just LOOOOVE to estimate when I have actual hard figures.

In the last 24 hours, there have been 3679 unique serials.
48 hours: 4673
72 hours: 5310
1 week: 7448
Since April 14, 2005 (little over a month): 13156 unique users

It's NOT 12,000 in all of Renegade. Note that these are JUST RenGuard users, so based on my figures that only about 50% of Renegade players use RenGuard, that would mean there are at least 26,000 players left.

How many of them are using warez or bought another copy to get past server bans? How many are the same person?

Unique serial hashes don't really mean too much. It's probably more like 90% of players now have to use RG or they can't play anymore, and end up leaving.

I stopped playing about a month ago, about 1/3 to 1/2 of the ppl in servers I played in used Renguard. I know because every once in a while I had to kick some prick for coming in and doing !forcerg on anyone who just didnt have RenGuard.

Till how much do the WOL ranks go up? 20000? When the ranks are reset, most people count as a "recruit". That means there are still more that 20000 right? Then we haven't even counted the GSA players yet...

Ok I've seen some other posts about things an softwares that are usefull for Renegade, but that was a long list and I couldn't figure out what I needed and what was crap.

What's the basic thing I need to play Renegade now a days? Patch, RenGuard and that's it?

Core Patch 1 too. If you want to keep up.

You are talking about the exception and not the rule. Do you honestly believe that there's a significant amount of people who have to use dozens of different serial hashes within a 40-odd day span? I would put the number of serials that artificially inflate the number of users at less than 0.1%. In fact, since each serial can be connected to WOL twice, I would say the number of users is actually a little higher. I know here at my house, we have two serials for four computers and three players.

It's very difficult to argue with the actual numbers, I'm honestly surprised you're still trying.

You're still assuming and didn't answer what I asked of you.

How many are evading server bans with another serial number? How many are the same person with another nickname?

That is EXACTLY the question I answered. Maybe you should read it again.

The nickname question is irrelevant because I didn't do a query for unique nicknames. I did a query for unique serial hashes.

Then why assume that Renegade has a huge fanbase behind it still? It's kind of hard to extrapolate data like that based on one perspective.

We could have many major servers keeping logs of all unique player IDs joining their servers too....if they logged them for a month, then posted them, along with the data from renguard, we might get an estimate of how many people play renegade online per month.

Nope. if you can remember your username, just brainstorm the password over and over till you get it right. remember, it's 8 characters exactly

12,000 is big enough for me to still give a damn about. Isn't "huge" a matter of opinion anyway, or a matter of relativity? It's still more people than the number that give a shit about anything you do or I do.

12,000... Lets put that in perspective. A small town has about 12,000 people in it. 12,000 is by no means a small number. Renegade has the population of a small town playing it.

Steampowered.com:

Average unique users per month: 2,335,749

current min max
n Player Count 139,840 60,439 180,156
n Server Count 87,405 46,189 87,934

This is at 1:12 AM. That count blows Renegade away.

Isn't that count for all games available on Steam though. Like TFC, HLDM, HL2DM, CS:S etc.
