"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.

My point? the difference between patriotism and fanatasism is a fine line. Go to war because there is no longer a rational and reasonable alternative, not because someone says your being unpatriotic, or un american.
I'm not anti american, you have your good, bad and ugly just like anywhere else. Including the UK.
I'll buy this war on terror story when you jail all those NORAID people for funding and supporting terrorism.

errr...India and China are in ASIA. And just because they have a lot of population doesn't mean they're powerful. We're not the largest nation, yet we (US) are by FAR the most powerful nation in the world.

Who ever said that India and China are not in Asia?

Leave an isolationist hole and you'll find out that countries like Russia, India, China are quite powerful. Militarily for now, and economically as time goes on. The US is not as high up in the world as you think... yes, singly the most powerful military force, but when you have more than one of these powers mentioned at once, it's a different story...

My point is not that, however - my point is that the US "coalition" is nothing more than the US and the UK with some add-ons there so that they can say - "Oh - we have 30 nations on our side." And of course Eritrea and Azerbaijan, together with the superpowers of Ethiopia and El Salvador, are, as longbow says, "the most powerful nations."

The edit consisted of adding one word that was left out, and it was made before your post anyhow...
