Since the building bars are released on Jelly-forums I'd like to know if you are willing to enable my PM rights again as there is no more reason from keeping me to send personal messages Wink

I never even shared any buildingbars through PM's here anyway Razz I was just joking in that topic.

Imo, if you enable one person's pm that you disabled because they have the building bars, you should enable all that you have disabled. Makes perfect sense to me.

Though it sounds to me Goztow is not the right person to ask, Crimson would probably be the one you have to ask.

I reenabled, but NOT because it's available at Jelly. This forum shall still not be used for spreading building bars and I hope you'll respect this and not undermine the trust I give you at this moment.

You just had a terrible timing to make jokes, tbh.

stealth skins can be pretty nasty; you should remove all of the ones that aid the user in finding stealthed units from renforums because it's a stupid advantage like building bars

Yet, by allowing it, they're condoning it.

as long as they don't go on servers that disallow them with the building bars what's the issue?

The issue is, it's a cheat, and I doubt everyone who plays at Jelly stays out of cheat-free servers.

No, so the release is also illegal. But i prefer it being an illegal release without source code than a legal release with source code.

Between brackets: IIRC the person who released this doesn't even have the source code as it isn't him who created it.

we allow the use of building bars and GPS huds and different reticles and different colored skins and models and clearscope and ugly sbh skins; not a big deal to us

we do not allow all skins or models, but probably over 95% of them are allowed
players who don't want to use them do not have to, but it's an option for them

Right. It isn't a big deal to you, but it is a big deal to the greater Renegade community. Do all Jelly players only play on Jelly? Do they clean out their Data folder every time they go on other servers? Jelly has every legal right to run his server the way he sees fit, but condoning the spread of a cheat is irresponsible.

that's kind of like saying people who sell guns are irresponsible because some people use those guns to kill other people
is that any reason for the selling of guns to become prohibited? i don't think so

there was no mention or warning that it may be disallowed on other servers so i'll add that now; thanks for pointing that out

End of the day they don't see it as a cheat, and they don't care that the scripts license is being broken. We can't really do anything about that, it's their choice. As I always say: I try to moderate this forum the way I (and the administration) see fit, I really don't have the time and courage to attempt to tell others what to do Razz. As long as it's still clear it should not be released here, than I made my point.

I could release the source code if you'd like to make it a legal release. Most of you probably don't want that though.

At the end of the day, we (Jelly) do not take responsibility for any posts our users make, just like any forum. They are free to post as they wish as long as it's within our forum rules. Currently, our forum rules do not have anything stating they are not allowed to post anything of that nature, so they are perfectly within their right to do so.

I thought the forum owner was juridically responsible for everything posted on their forum. I'm not sure if this applies in all countries, though.

Of course. We're talking about two different things here. You're talking about being within a person's "legal" (For lack of a better term) rights, and I'm talking about the morality of the issue. It's your server and your forums. You can do whatever the hell you want with it.

Please don't release the source, though. It'll only make the situation worse. And if some kind of situation were to arise where the release has to be taken down for not being legal, then so be it.

Technically, everyone that joins signs a "digital waver" releasing the site owner from any liability. All liability is then transferred to the poster.

I won't ever release the source to this, I was just trying to make a point. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I'm not sure you can release your liability that easily. E.g. if someone agrees that you kill them, then it'll still be considered a murder and you will be punished for this although said person agreed. This is an extreme example to show what I mean: I don't think you can allow posters to post illegal things on your forums just by transfering liability.

In this situation, the cake is something disgusting like tiramisu. I don't want to eat it, nor do I want to have it. I just wish it never existed in the first place.
