ok so the fan on my heat sink is fucked so I pretty much have to use this webbook laptop thing that uses Ubuntu.

anyway it has wine installed on it but I've got no idea how to use it.. I tried to install msn live but got this error from the terminal:

and that's about it.. can someone tell me how to install msn properly using wine? I'd really appreciate the help!

Use the Linux version of MSN.

It's a package you download, erm, I havn't used ubuntu in a while. I think its somthing like -> sudo apt-get install amsn (type that into the terminal)

hmm cheers.. amsn sucks so i got KMESS 1.5 msn linux messenger.

sa'll good, cheers for the help. Very Happy

also found a gui interface that installs applications for you. Very Happy

Linux is alright.. though I petty much have to download codecs for every filetype of media. argh!!

Linux is actually pretty good. As a matter of fact I think that if you would have never touched Windows it's easier to learn Linux. Not to mention you need to maintain a Windows box alot more which is for the "normal people" that dont sit behind the box for more then 2 hours a day something very hard to do. Besides out of the box it has a good integrated firewall. When it comes to eye candy there is some distributions that could top Vista;.

I am toying a around a bit with Debian, I heard alot of good things about it. And many tutorials on the web.


Oh and can't wait till the cooperation comes in a couple of companys are working on a realy good distribution.. I dunno where I read it. But when its grown up and it could actually match up with a 2003/2008 domain envoirement.

I'm running Mandrivia at the moment, it's very good. but I need to change to Debian.

Ubuntu comes with a messenger that does the Windows messenger and MSN networks. Check the internet apps menu under applications.

this is a shitty laptop that has problems playing videos on youtube at a decent frame rate.. I think this laptop would melt trying to run Renegade, lol.
