Im pretty sure thes best PCI card is the FX5500 which will give you some improvement but not a great deal though.

Agreed.

If you want something good enough to actually be worth buying, you'll need a new motherboard and processor to accompany it.

Which might just mean a new PC. You can install your old Hard Drive or transfer your old files to the new PC too. But if you want to install the old HD, you need to call MS, since they will think your new PC may be a pirate.

I think upgrading to a new PC would be best, even if it was a cheap PC, i'm sure the specs would be better and the graphics card built in would be better than what you currently have. Most PC's today come with a 6150 in it as the standard graphics card, otherwise, you could get a cheap PC, toss out the old crappy graphics card, and put your own 7500 in, the 7500 is pretty cheap now and runs cnc3 at full settings and 1280x1024 smoothly.

That's a lie.

I have a 7900GS and it runs it like shit at that res, i have to have it on at least medium settings to get it to run realisticly (else i play in bullet time)...

Just get a new PC.

PCI-gaming card's is just a no go unless, you play a game once in a blue moon and don't want to play on a mid end detail.

No he is right, if you change mobo and processor WGA will consider it a system change and start complaining.

I have a Gforce 6800 from biostar that I bought from newegg for 50 bucks. I wanted the most powerful graphics card I could get without buying a new power supply (2.75 to 2.81GHz). This card I might: add runs renegade with shaders on, at max resolution, and gets about 40-50 fps.

They made a AGP version as well but that was my point, no good recommending a card that the topic starter cannot use.

Wait, Blue Leader can't use AGP? If he doesn't have PCIe, then he should have AGP. If you don't even have AGP, get a new computer.

Are you sure your motherboard can't support AGP? if not, that really sucks.

I wouldn't advise buying a whole new computer unless you got the money for it, just build it up, then you buy the parts you want.

Most shops and websites, sell pre-made builds that are just crap for gaming.

Alot of OEMs 3-4 years ago sold budget level cheap systems with no AGP and just regular PCI. Why they did this is anyone's guess, becuase the motherboards sold with these systems HAD the AGP support in the chipset and the wiring and spot for it on the motherboard. Simply the physical slot itself was lacking, but electronically, it was all there. They skimped on the slot itself. I wonder how much they saved doing that? Nothing?

Here are your options short of a new PC. Remember, you need PCI only, NOT PCI-Express. These are somehwat in order from best to worst, although all are low-end. They will be expensive considering the performance they give.

ATi Radeon X1300
nVidia GeForce 6200
nVidia GeForceFX 5500 (just an overclocked GeForceFX 5200)
nVidia GeForceFX 5200

Anything lower would barely be better than integrated.

Indeed. But those cards are terrible, unless he has a AGP or PCI-E he is better of buying a new mobo+cpu/mem. If he is able to do this himself, else he will have to consider a total new pc. Other then that it would be waste really.
