Recruit

I am sick of fraps, and am looking for something new and better. There has to be something better than fraps and it's over sized files and slow performance.

I'm mainly wanting to use it in battlefield 2. I bought ZD soft game recorder, and it doesn't record in battlefield 2.

Any help would be appreciated.

PLECOS MASTER

Game Cam is pretty good, although your performance takes a slight hit from it. It's actually a good thing, so then you don't have a big lag when you start recording, like with Fraps.

Used the default settings loaded Renegade hit F9 to record and it popped up saying its started recording (Already im annoyed) but then I couldn't actually get back ingame, I press on the Renegade tab and I can hear myself walking but I couldn't see anything except my desktop.. So I wouldn't recommend this if you want to actually record Renegade.

Actually over sized files is idea because instead of wasting CPU power compressing you get better gameplay while running Fraps and a higher quality. You can compress later.

Fraps is freakin' great!

You just need to know a few tips:

On the movies tab, Choose 40fps, If your graphics card is more new, With a powerful Processor, and at least 1 gig of ram, use 50-60fps

Don't record sound, Unless you really need to.

De frag your pc before you record your movie, You will most probably reduce alot of frame-rate loss. Smile

So is Fraps.

I used Camtasia but only for non-game recordings.

As Alex said, by default Fraps limits your framerate to 30 unless you make it higher. Most of the videos of me playing games were recoded using fraps and i got a strong 60 fps with my 6200 back then.

So its only good if you run games in windowed mode... I was ingame I pressed F9 and a bollon came up saying its recording which minimized my game and wouldn't let me back in.

I prefer to run my Fraps at only 25 fps, half-size from 1024x768 fullscreen mode. It saves a bunch of space in the raw files, and since my hardware can take a bit more abuse than that, the video and my ingame controls run smoothly unless I forgot to defrag recently. You really only need 25 fps, since the minimum threshold for fluid motion in human vision is 24 fps. You can go 30 fps if you want it to look slightly more fluid, but remember that you're going to have to compress your video anyway before showing it to anyone else, so some of that motion quality is going to deteriorate.

Thanks for the reply's. I am still wondering if someone could download zd soft game recorder: http://www.zdsoft.com/game-recorder/ then use it to try to record in battlefield 2 or battlefield 2142, and reply back as to rather or not it worked for you. When I attempt to record in most other games, it works fine. However, as stated before, it fails to record in battlefield games. Here is what it says:

"Can not start recording!

No game windows is active!
Or the active game is not supported.
Only DirectX and OpenGL games are supported."
