Current favourite is this: http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/systemview.aspx?id=100

I ocan only stretch to £600 including VAT+Delivery and I am in England.

Only thing I might do i double the memory up to 2048mb for an extra £20.

Any comments or suggestions for alternatives would be apprecieated, things that matter:

Pentium Dual Core Processor

Decent graphics card, preferably SLI

min 1GB memory

I would recommend that you build your own. You might think "I don't know how to do that" - but consider I learnt how to do it from just two books from my library and the internet, it's not that hard. Smile

As you're UK based, like me, I can recommed;

www.overclockers.co.uk and www.saverstore.com (Who recently redesigned and don't have all thier stock back yet)

I get all my PC stuff from http://www.ebay.co.uk

Carrier is right, build your own. There are loads of tutorials on the net. My advice is invest in an expensive motherboard, cheap ones are slow and crappy.

use ebuyer.co.uk to find bits you want. They have reasonable prices but always shop around for the best prices

I am capable of building a machine from scratch and I have done it before, but I don't want to on this occasion - you can configure whatever machine you want through most online retailers, it's easier and means I can be assured that everything is done correctly.

Good choice, MexPirate. It looks like a nice PC to me.

It seems you are a "plug-and-play" person like me: like buy the computer and play!

But I agree with everyone else's suggestion and so I highly suggest that you build your own rig...it's WAY TOO COOLER AND IT IS SO EASY! You will love your investment.

Here's a great tutorial site everyone's talking about:
http://www.buildeasypc.com/

It explains EVERYTHING.

But of course, feel free to buy the Fusion...looks damn good to me. Big Grin Thumbs Up

OK, I trust ebuyer and have bought from them before so I thought I would do a comparison using the cheapest available equivelant components, wasn't sure about any cables I might need (IDE, power etc) that might add a few £'s but it is a minute price difference an I know this system will perform well for gaming (36.2fps for Prey test):

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/874/ebuyeruv0.jpg

Looks like I will stick with it unless anyone else has suggestions for other companies (I use ebay but don't trust the component or build quality of machines on there & overclockers came out a lot more expensive)

vista home premium is included with the fusion.

I just put basic on ebuyer as I was trying to get as low a price as possible.

My own advice would to be to not buy Vista until November this year - by that point, it will be as stable and relatively secure as XP, as well as having more software designed to run on Vista, and not XP.

Yeah, overclockers are expensive, but it's all high quality hardware for gaming enthusiasts.

Mex - you've got two PSUs in that... (one in the tower, one not) - feel like mailing me one? Razz

he can just remove the 550 watt model, as that will probably not have any influence. any good 450Watt PSU could power that machine.

My advice: Dont get ebuyer extra value, its unbranded stuff they get from several places and its not always very reliable. Get some Crucial or Kingston RAM instead, will put the price up a bit but will likely last longer.

Yea I noticed that I added two PSU's, it's because I switched cases and the first one I added didn't have a PSU.

I decided on the fusion, it's an awesome deal:

Coe 2 Duo 6300 (1.86Ghz)
2048mb RAM
nForce SLI motherboard
Geforce 7900 GFX (Will add a second when I can afford)
250GB HDD
Funky Gamers case with side window and blue neon
19" LCD Monitor
Vista Home Premium (I don't plan on shelling out on another OS in 6 months)

It came to £611, which I was pretty happy with - just need to get C&C3 + Supreme Commander and I can see how good it really is Smile

So you got a case with a PSU already in it? Do you know what brand the PSU is? I'd recommend a GOOD powersupply and not just "one" that comes with the case. Investing in the powersupply is a investment that will make your system stable for 3 years and onward. Not just that, it will also make sure ( if you would like) you can overclock that E6300 baby to lets say a 3 Ghz Smile --> stable.

Yup.

A verry good buy at the moment is Crucial Balistix PC5300 these are well priced and deliver a bang for the buck.

The case comes with a 450w PSU included, that should do me fine for the moment although I might look at replacing it when I add the second graphics card.

JPNOD is right. A high quality PSU makes ALL the diff-er-ence... in the world. That case PSU might be okay though, but that highly depends on which brand the case is. I got lucky enough to get a pretty good power supply with my case a long time ago. But now the fan is extremely noisy and I can't fix it, so I had to swap it finally. However, it did last me a good three years, and it still works... just noisy.

Expense does NOT necessarily mean greatness...You can build an entire computer for around like US$1000. http://www.newegg.com

Haven't you seen the Core 2 Duo series? They're cheaper AND faster than the current dual-core AMDs. Trust me, this is coming from someone who has always liked AMD in the past, but I'm not a fanboy of either. I just go with whatever is the best deal at the moment.

Get an E6400 procecessor if you can. They overclock NICELY. Mines at 30% overclock and I could easily push it further if I wanted.

Motherboards based on Intel chipset is more expensive in combination with processor vs AMD X-serie and motherboard. The thing is these C2D are dragging they can go alot higher with just "basic' aircooling so the C2D is alot better choice.

Core 2 Duo E6320 $163 Athlon 64 X2 5200+ $169
Core 2 Duo E4400 $133 Athlon 64 X2 4800+ $129
Core 2 Duo E4300 $113 Athlon 64 X2 4400+ $115

either way go with the E6320-->4mb cach or E4300 2mb cache

I would get the E4300 with a good cooler
