i installed it, and when i click on the icon for the game to start, and window pops up for the game, but when it goes away nothing happens, any help?

i tried re installing, still nothing, the same window comes up, and then nothing happens

Ensure that the Renegade CD2 (the red one) is in your CD/DVD drive, or you can use Renegade CD1 (the green one)

How long do you wait for "nothing" to happen? It could that your PC is just very slow.

its not that its slow, i have tried both disks as well. Do i have to run it in any specific compatability mode?

Renegade runs fine under XP, some are having trouble with vista but compatibility to xp sp2 works fine.

Do the first 3 of these things and see what happens from there:

Hmmm do you run it from the autorun-window? I seem to remember that this didn't work at my friend's place. He had to run it via the shortcut.

Run renegade in admin mode, using win xp sp2 compatibility mode. Seems to be most reliable that way.
