Just thinking here, did you get permission to affiliate other sites?

And your "FDS" section is not exactly helping those who don't know what they're doing. "go to 'this' folder and set it right" is not telling them what file to open and what section of the file to edit.

True, but it'll leave more people moaning about why their FDS isn't working which stops progress on those who they chose to help them. I'd rather tell them what to do in the first place than let them moan, but that's my opinion.

First finish your website, then ask people if they want hosting. Your banner doesn't even show up.

How about giving him some constructive critisism instead of being a complete asshole?

My constructive critisism:

-If you want your website to get serious, you'll need hosting(paid) and a domain name with either a .com, or .net extension
-The background stands out a bit too much
-The site really needs a banner
-Don't put external links on the Navigation if you can help it.(as in the case with the maps linking to filefront)
-The FDS section needs to be explained more thoroughly

On the other hand, the nav and content doesn't looks so bad at the moment. With a little work, it could end up looking pretty nice.

God, that BC link in your signature is horrible, please just fucking kill yourself. Seriously, dude, BC sucks ass. Die in a fire.

No, but seriously, BC can go fuck themselves. Smile

As for the site, I would suggest to get actual hosting. The last thing you want is one of those free forums. I hate InvisionFree forums.

I don't think the design is actually all that bad. It does need a banner... or, at least, a text header.

A little money does go a long way. I understand that you probably don't have much money or any means to purchase hosting online, but if you're going to try and start a community, doing so with free hosting is not the way to do it. So many communities try and fail going that route. Nobody takes you seriously if you use free hosting.

Nothing wrong with free hosting, I recomment something like hostmatrix if you're willing to put in the time they require and learn.

I personally got lucky and I'm on abasic hosting plan that _should_ cost me but it doesn't, thanks to a generous aussie host.

If you decide you want to put real effort in, a domain name will help. Lots of people judge a site based on its domain. (I for instance am less likely to look at a .tk or .co.nr but am more likely to look at a .com)

Your site isn't bad, it's just the first step.

Yeah, the best free hosting is off of those you know. Free (advertised) hosting should be avoided, though.

I started off on ad-supported hosting, back then it was a popup and a banner.

Depending on your internet connection you may be able to host your website yourself. Do you leave your PC on all the time?

I started off at Geocities. Those were the days when I created sites with Microsoft Word in 2000. Then I borrowed hosting from a friend. Then I actually afforded my own hosting. I haven't used a free hosting site since 2002, if I remember correctly.

Look at HostMatrix, they don't charge so long as you contribute to the community

You don't need to pay for php forums, phpBB is a nice forum for first-timers to get their feet wet with.

I can't help you much with freewebs, if I rememeber correctly you can't manually edit pages and they don't host php/MySQL, but if you find a host that does sure i'll give you a hand.

PHPbb is more than just a "nice forum for first-timers to get their feet wet with".

It is extremely modifiable (also for security) and I know of some huge communities running on PHPbb. It's just a victim of its own popularity, just like - let's say - windows and its Iexplorer (and firefox will be soon as well, as it becomes more popular, especially due to the fact it's open source).

As for webhosting: you can get paid webhosting for as much as 1 $ per month. You don't need all that much bandwith and place anyway, do you? It'll include PHP and mysql.
