I'm surprised to see that this game is still going, I had A LOT of fun with it, played it for about a year after it came out.

I was thinking of coming back, just wanted to know if anyone else has done so and how hard is it to get the game patched etc. to the point you can get on the servers, is everybody all pro now, will I just get wasted non-stop, is there anything else in a nutshell I would need to know...

Thanks for any help.

Ok, to play on servers just connect to wol and it will automaticly download a patch, then you should be good to play on servers. There are map packs which you can get at www.unrules.com (the good ones anyway) and there is renguard from www.renguard.com which also has an optional "core patch" that is a 3rd party patch made by bhs (black hand studios) that fixes bugs and increased loading speeds.

There are still plenty of n00bs playin on the public servers so I wouldnt worry about getting pwned there, if you are looking to join a clan feel free to drop by our forums - http://www.clanbbf.com/viewforum.php?f=90 and our servers once you got set up.

Game is stil very much alive, were getting new recruits every day and had around 30 members at the last count.

The game is really fun, or really frustrating depending on your team. There are so many n00bs that are not very bright, you should be fine if you have any common sense. I would definitely install it and Renguard with both core patches. There are many new features included with the core patches. I assume the new scripts are included. Also, the install guide should include "ALT + TAB to desktop and allow Renegade and Renguard to bypass firewall".

Thanks for the responses, I'm going to set it up tonight.

A question - if I use Rengard, the new maps, and the BHS patches, is that considered the "standard" setup, ie, will I be able to play on all (or I guess most) servers when I am set up like that?

Using renguard will allow you to play on every server I know of, I am sure there is probably a couple that champion fan maps.

Would recommend the KOSs2 server if you are interested in checking out the extra maps included in renguard (well the core patch that comes with it)

We only use the original maps on our server most others do the same - but they are worth a look if you want a change.

But beware, RG does not stop you from being banned on some servers.

So don't become too good..don't want you to become better than those mods who say.."OMG HE HS ME IMPOSSIBLE!! HE CHETTER!!!"

Huh

Up and running! Only trouble was it would jamup when I was trying to sign in because of my firewall software and I couldn't alt tab to allow it. A little process-of-elimination work fixed that and I so I allowed the program to access the internet ahead of time = problem solved.

Had some good fun last night, but don't worry I doubt I will become too good too soon - I'm beyond rusty and into fossilzed. It was interesting to see the changes made on some of the maps like islands where you can't MLRS the hand anymore (thank you, excellent) but also the sniper holes were closed up (less good).

Thanks for all the help.
